Sharpening My Other Senses?

I’ve heard that if someone loses one of their senses, their other 4 are sharpened.

Hmmmm.

According to the eye doctors, I have 20/16 vision. However, not one of those doctors has been able to diagnose or treat my Super Selective Slob Vision. But perhaps this type of blindness has helped me develop what hubby calls my Bionic Nose.

I have been doing well this week at running the dishwasher every night, emptying it in the morning, and then putting dirties directly in it throughout the day, so my kitchen has stayed fairly decent.

However, my selective vision (perhaps brought on by being overly proud of myself for doing anything at all this week) has prevented me from noticing the very large cookie sheets, skillets, pots (basically anything that can’t fit in the dishwasher) in one side of the sink. Only on one side . . . so it wasn’t like I couldn’t drain pasta or wash an apple.

But this morning, feeling completely justified to again ignore them, I couldn’t ignore that there was a bit of a whang in the air. Something besides fully-rinsed-and-waiting-for-an-official-washing-dishes were in that sink.

So even though my clutter-vision was impaired, my super-sense-of-smell spurred me on to clean the kitchen. For real this time.

And I must say that walking into an actually-clean kitchen after VBS today was a nice feeling. An even nicer feeling than walking into a how-dare-anyone-think-this-kitchen-isn’t-clean-even-though-there-are-dishes-in-the-sink-cuz-I’ve-been-running-the-dishwasher-every-night-so-there kitchen.

Really? Well, Who Woulda Thought?

June 23, 2010 By Dana White 2 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Quick post in the 23 minutes I have before I need to start dinner. It was supposed to be a relaxing afternoon at home, but someone called to suggest we go see Toy Story 3 in a little-bit-bigger-town near our small-town. They have a dinky theatre where the matinee is 2.25!!! Seriously, […]

Living Up to My Expectations

June 22, 2010 By Dana White 7 Comments

69shares 69 0 0 I’ve been saying for weeks that this week, VBS week, was going to be my undoing.  I expected it to be crazy, myself to make excuses, and order to be unattainable. This is the big struggle I face between being realistic about how I am, and deciding to stop the excuses so […]

Feeling a Little Better

June 22, 2010 By Dana White 3 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Just got back from a late-night haircut and color. Nothing perks up a girl like getting her roots done. It’s also a biggie checked off the list of things I wanted to do before going on vacation/Savvy Blogging Summit. I worked hard on getting laundry folded, and made a lot of progress. […]

Losing Things . . . Losing My Mind

June 21, 2010 By Dana White 9 Comments

1share 0 0 1My husband used to know where to find his keys at any given moment. Then he married me. The most frustrating thing about being a slob is my tendency to lose things.  “Tendency” really isn’t a strong enough word.  If I had the brain power right now, I’d think of a word […]

Two Steps Back, and One Step Forward

June 20, 2010 By Dana White 5 Comments

0shares 0 0 0The kitchen. Oh my. I have had a full-fledged, in-my-face reminder of the fact that I am a slob.  A reminder of how a week of minimal/survival effort followed by two days of full-on neglect can create a kitchen worthy of starting a blog called A Slob Comes Clean. Last night, I […]

Menu Plan Monday – The Crazy Week Edition

June 20, 2010 By Dana White 6 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Now that my horrible, terrible, very bad kitchen is clean(ish), I’m determined to get this menu plan done. Somehow, the kitchen is easier to clean when I have a planned menu. I’m not sure how that works, other than that maybe I don’t pull things out as a part of an idea […]

Watching Clutter Happen

June 19, 2010 By Dana White 3 Comments

1share 1 0 0My house looks like summer. Not in the fresh-flowers-on-the-dining-table way, but in the flip-flops-everywhere-and-random-junk-piling-up-from-lack-of-routine way. And I’m watching it happen. Sometimes I’m not aware of the clutter happening, but right now I feel very aware. I may not have purposely put it there, but I have purposely left it there. I was […]

Saving Money and Preventing Dizziness at Amusement Parks

June 18, 2010 By Dana White 2 Comments

116shares 116 0 0 This has nothing to do with being a slob or my deslobification progress. But hey, I have a blog and so I get to write what I want! A few tips I want to share after our fun trip to Six Flags yesterday: First, a frugal one. We do our best […]
