Focus Check Friday

Really? Again? Friday?

Zowie, focus is difficult in the summer. I’ve had a bad case of the donwannas, but thankfully, the thing that has helped is . . . focus. Having an overall desire to help my kids learn 1) what cleaning is, and 2) that it has to be done consistently, has helped me stay on track.

My focus for next week? Ummmm . . . VBS. Vacation Bible School. So much fun, but so unbelievably exhausting. I think I’m going to focus on daily tasks and daily tasks only for next week. I don’t see any mopping going on. VBS was my big downfall/trip-up last summer when I was attempting to “change things around here once and for all” and so it scares me a little. I’m dealing with that by not putting many expectations on us for the week above the bare minimum.

If you’d like to join in on Focus Check Friday, you can comment, link up a blog post, or just take a deep breath and think about your upcoming week. It’s meant to be an excuse for you to blab on about/hash out what is and isn’t working in your quest for home order. You can read more about the concept behind it here.

If you do link up below, please say something like “I’m linking up to Focus Check Friday on A Slob Comes Clean” and then link back to this post.

The Power of External Motivation

June 17, 2010 By Dana White 5 Comments

0shares 0 0 0We’re headed for Six Flags today!!!  And I . . . . feel completely justified treating it as a play day, no menial tasks, much less big tasks, required.  However, there was chicken in the fridge.  Chicken I purchased on Saturday . . .  and it’s now Thursday.  Chicken that says “sell […]

Meeting Resistance . . . From Myself

June 16, 2010 By Dana White 4 Comments

10shares 10 0 0 Today has been a nice summer day.  We’re planning to go to Six Flags tomorrow, so the plan for the week was to go ahead and get mopping and vacuuming done today. Buuutttt, this morning was so pleasant.  We had great breakfast conversation, then the kids were off playing, totally occupied, and I […]

Cut the Creep – Introducing a New Non-Negotiable Task

June 15, 2010 By Dana White 7 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I’m in Summer Survival Mode.  I’m keeping my kitchen clean and doing the weekly tasks. But the clutter is creeping. It’s especially bad in the office.  The office/game room is such a fabulous room, perfect for all odds-and-ends.  It’s the guestroom, the Wii station, the computer room, the shoe storage/mudroom, the place […]

Daily Checklist? Oh, yeah, that.

June 15, 2010 By Dana White Leave a Comment

1share 0 0 17 kids. We thought we wore them out swimming in our small-town-still-has-a-high-dive-pool. We thought that with all of the running around and screaming they’d go right to sleep. We thought that after staying up talking (loudly) for hours after being put to bed, they’d sleep past 6:30 a.m. We were so wrong. […]

My Drastic Clothing Reduction Experiment – Week One Report

June 14, 2010 By Dana White 18 Comments

211shares 211 0 0My kids have officially survived week one of our summer experiment. I decided in the last week of school to put away all but one week’s worth of clothing for them. I could be imagining it, as I tend to do that, but my laundry load seemed smaller today. However, my 6yo […]

Daily Checklist: Re-Re-Adjusting . . . Again

June 14, 2010 By Dana White 2 Comments

1share 1 0 0Aaaah, summer! The time of fun and spontaneity. Two of my favorite things, and two of the things that got me in this mess. Oh well. I’d rather be a fun slob than a boring normal person. Last week, one section of my brain was rejoicing that we would have a nice […]

Down in the Deep Deep Depths . . . of my Freezer

June 14, 2010 By Dana White 13 Comments

261shares 261 0 0Our chest freezer is dying. We’ve known this day would come, as it’s only . . . ummmm . . . at least 40 years old. Yes, that thing is older than I am. But it was free! And we’ve had it for almost 7 years. Last night, I opened it up […]

What’s the Difference Between Me and the People on Hoarders ?

June 11, 2010 By Dana White 5 Comments

2shares 2 0 0Hoarders are slobs, but slobs are not necessarily hoarders.  I was thinking about this concept today as I made the French Toast Sticks that I was supposed to make last weekend, but never did.  As I worked on them, I was feeling pretty good about myself.  I bragged to the audience in […]
