Up to My Old Tricks

I’m feeling much better today than I was yesterday. Thankfully, the kids slept a bit later this morning and we’re all on the road to recovery after our trip.

The fact that I have more energy is definitely a good thing . . . since we have visitors tonight . . . and these visitors have titles that end in “in-law.”

I have lots of great excuses. We’ve been gone for most of the last three weeks. We just unpacked the suitcases and did laundry all day yesterday (can you really expect more of a person?). I had to pack for two separate trips before we left so things were spread out all over the house.

But the reality was that my house was far from in-law-ready, and I had to get after it this morning. Thankfully, it was enough better than last summer that I was able to get it whipped into shape in a few hours, but I did resort to a few of my old tricks.

The empty tub that had held our food from the trip was just too tempting.

The dresser in the office/game room/guest room was just too cluttered.

The time before they got here was coming just too quickly.

So I did it. I dumped all of the clutter into that empty tub.

It felt awful, but I honestly didn’t know what to do. Lenetta calls that clutter unmade-decisions, and she’s right. I just didn’t have the time or the mental energy to make all of those decisions before they got here. I mean, I had to get a shower. What would be worse, shoving a bunch of stuff into a container, or answering the door in my pajamas and smelling like I just finished running a marathon?

My one justification was that I put the container under the guest bed, so it will have to be moved when I put the trundle back under there. Hopefully, when I pull it out, the guilt will overcome me and I’ll go ahead and make all of those decisions.

Hopefully.

A Few More Tricks for a Successful Roadtrip with Kids – Travel Tips from a Slob

July 16, 2010 By Dana White 7 Comments

116shares 108 0 8 I love great ideas. Gadgets, unique inventions, problem solving ideas, etc. But as I’ve said before, it’s my love of “cool stuff” that has put me in this mess. It seems that normal people can see an item, evaluate whether or not they truly need it, purchase it, find a proper […]

Focus Check Friday – Getting Back to Normal(ish)

July 16, 2010 By Dana White 4 Comments

1share 0 0 1Last week I shared that my focus for the week was to enjoy my family.  I did.  Our vacation was fun, and although the long trip home wore us out, it was time to be together.  I’m especially proud of how well our kids did with all of the car-time. For next […]

July 15, 2010 By Dana White 14 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I’m finally back!  After 13 days gone and 17 hours of driving in one day, we arrived home at midnight last night. 13 days. 17 hours. Midnight. 3 kids. OK, I’m done.  I just wanted to be sure you felt sufficiently sorry for me. Actually, we had a blast, and achieved the […]

My Best Packing Tip for Road Trips with Kids – Travel Advice from a Slob

July 15, 2010 By Dana White 13 Comments

203shares 201 0 2Today is the last official day of our road trip, not counting the travel day tomorrow. Who knows when I’ll be able to get this posted, as the stars must align for me to find free wi–fi, have the computer with me, feel justified in taking up family-time for mama to get […]

So My Scatter-brainedness Isn’t Really a New Thing

July 12, 2010 By Dana White 12 Comments

1share 1 0 0We’re officially in the middle of our roadtrip. Being forgetful/scatter-brained means that it is guaranteed that I will forget something.  The only question is what it will be, and how important it will be. Leaving the house for a vacation is one of the many times when I am extremely grateful for […]

Purse Clutter

July 8, 2010 By Dana White 8 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I found this in one of my many boxes of random things. Any guesses what it is? It’s a salt and pepper shaker to carry in your purse. It’s meant to be used when you bring your lunch to work, or go on a picnic, whatever. Except that even though I’ve been […]

A Gadget That I Actually Use . . . No Really

July 7, 2010 By Dana White 9 Comments

29shares 29 0 0 I’m going to give full credit to my 8yo here. He’s the one who pulled the cord on this lightbulb moment. My shower has been pretty clean since I started doing my weekly tasks. Before that . . . not so much. One night, pre-regular-shower-cleaning, I noticed that he was taking […]
