Freezing Ground Beef In Meal-Sized Portions
How I cook pre-cook ground beef.
--Nony
I LOVE your pre-cooked ground beef recipe. So does my son. We’re picking up a bunch of burger on a good sale tomorrow and that’s what we’ll be doing Friday night. Makes mealtime a lot easier most nights. Just out of curiosity though, how much do you put in bags? I seem to get a lot more packages with I don’t cook it first.
WHEN I don’t cook it first… :/
Do you mean that the raw hamburger fills more bags? Ultimately, it’s the same amount, just that after cooked the fat has been drained out. If I have seven pounds of meat, I just approximate and divide into seven portions, if I feel like being exact. Many times, though, I will just put it in the bag, crumbled and fairly flat, and break off however much I feel like using.
Lunch for Sunday done, meat for spaghetti and tacos later this week ready to go!
Waiting for it to warm is always the hardest thing for me to do. I’m leary about having food out for too long.
But I’m reveling in the time I’ve saved my future self.
Don’t you have a podcast on pre-cooking chicken in a crock-pot? I found something you have on pre-cooking chicken by frying and freezing, but I’m trying remember how you do the crock pot version…
I know I mentioned it, but not sure where! Here’s the post – https://www.aslobcomesclean.com/2015/01/how-to-cook-and-shred-chicken-in-bulk-fast/
Why not go one step farther? We turn part of the pre-cooked burger into “Taco Meat” by adding spices, peppers, onions, black beans, and diced tomato to it, then bag, cool & freeze. On “Taco Night” morning, throw the bag of taco meat into the slow cooker on low, come home from work that evening, chop the lettuce & tomato, assemble & eat! 🙂
