Distractible Me – Daily Checklist and Laundry Day

I’ve made some progress today.  It has been one of those days when things click along mostly like they are supposed to, and I have time to do some real deslobbifying.

Last night, even though I was tired after our kids’ musical at church, I made lunches, put out clothes, started the dishwasher, gathered and sorted laundry, and started the first load.

This morning I made the bed, emptied the dishwasher, changed over a load of clothes, and even had my Bible Study time . . . before the kids got up!  Generally, my routine is to have my study time after I drop off the boys at school, but somehow I had some time before they got up, and since I was planning to head to the store straight from the school, it made sense to go ahead.

Then . . . while the kids ate breakfast, I swept.

Weird, I know.

And it is now not even 1:30, and my last load of laundry FOR THE WEEK is in the washing machine.

Bizarre, I know.

But I’m still me, the distractible slob. There have been two different periods today, one lengthy and one short, when I have become distracted and completely forgotten about the laundry.  Usually it is due to removing a load, taking it to the folding spot, and then seeing something . . . or remembering something . . . or just generally thinking about something other than laundry.

Anything will do.

This is why the Laundry Day works better for me than trying to do one load a day.  I’m distractible, no matter what.  But knowing that Monday = Laundry helps me stay on track.

When I did one load a day, I was equally, if not more distractible, and there was nothing to bring me back to focus.  The day went on and it never occurred to me that I hadn’t changed over the load until the next day when it was time to put in another load.

*FYI, Laundry Day probably won’t work for you if you’re on a septic system, as it may overload your system. Sorry!

——————————–

Please note that “Distractible” is not a word, according to Blogger’s spellcheck.  But since Blogger does not consider “blogger’s” to be a word, I don’t really care what he/she/it thinks.  Like any modern-day spelling enthusiast, I went into a Word document and typed “distractible” and no red squiggly line appeared underneath.  That is good enough for me.

Menu Plan Monday – Getting Back Into the Swing

August 30, 2010 By Dana White 1 Comment

0shares 0 0 0Week one of school is done. It’s time to get back into menu planning for real. Honestly, it’s the last thing I want to do right now, but I’m planning to stop by the store in the morning, and if I’m prepared, maybe it can be my only stop there this week. […]

"Your Way is Much Better, Mom"

August 29, 2010 By Dana White 12 Comments

92shares 92 0 0 On Friday, my 8yo was retelling a Calvin and Hobbes comic. Something about Calvin convincing his mother that they should go out for pizza by emphasizing to her that she wouldn’t have to spend all that time in the kitchen cooking and then washing dishes. My son said, “I think the […]

Oh, the Lovely Suds!

August 26, 2010 By Dana White 5 Comments

1share 0 0 1 One common misconception about slobs is that we don’t like to clean. I can’t speak for all slobs . . . but I actually enjoy cleaning. It’s the supply-gathering, time-designating, counter-unearthing that I don’t like. But give me a personal assistant who keeps track of the mop and bucket, puts away […]
