Daily Tasks – Whether it needs it or not!

I am constantly looking for excuses. I’m good at it too. I can always rationalize putting off the things I just don’t want to do.

Last night my father-in-law was here. The kids went to bed, and so it was time to wipe down the bathroom counters and toilets. The first excuse that came to mind was that I wouldn’t be a good hostess if I cleaned bathrooms while he was here. I got over that one. It truly only takes a minute or two per bathroom, so he didn’t even notice. My next rationalization was to not do the half-bath which is in the office/guest room. I’m not sure how that was logical, but it seemed so. That was an excuse that almost got the best of me. I actually decided at one point not to do it. But then I did, because part of this whole process is me not making excuses anymore.

And boy was I glad I did. Before we had gone out to eat, we had done the potty call for the kids. I’m assuming one of the boys ran in there and closed his eyes while he went. There was pee everywhere. All over the back of the seat. On the floor behind the toilet, and in those side spots where it always seems to collect. Grrr. But I wiped it up. I took care of it before it dried and became a bigger problem.

This helped me grasp the daily wipe-down concept. Some days the toilets and counters probably don’t need to be wiped. Most days though, they do. Even if it’s just for the sake of a teeny tiny tinkle-sprinkle. Or a few drips from the handsoap. Or some of hubby’s shaving cream. All of those things add up in a week (or three, or four) to bigtime mess, which requires me to spend a designated hour and a half cleaning all of the bathrooms. Then I put it off and off because I don’t have that much time.

I don’t have the tub/shower cleaning figured out at this point. I’m assuming that that will be a weekly task, which I haven’t even started thinking about. But overall, my bathrooms look clean everyday now. I like that.

Today I:

Made bed.

Cleaned kitchen.

Swept kitchen.

Did 5 minute walk-through. (This included stripping the sheets off of the guest bed, something I generally put off until the next guest is coming.)

Wiped down the bathrooms last night.

Checked bathrooms for clutter.

Daily Checklist – and a Surprise Overnight Guest!

October 9, 2009 By Dana White | 6 Comments

0shares 0 0 0My husband called yesterday to let me know that his dad is going to come spend the night tonight. Do you know what I said? Get ready . . . “Okay.” Seriously. That’s what I said. And what’s even more shocking, it’s what I was actually thinking, too! No internal inappropriate language […]

Like Mother, Like Daughter (AAAAHHHH!)

October 9, 2009 By Dana White | 8 Comments

99shares 89 0 10I worked on my daughter’s room this morning. It was scary. Scary to anyone who might happen to pass by, but especially scary to a mom who struggles with chaos and clutter and desperately doesn’t want to pass this on to her children. My daughter is three. She is at an age […]

Practicing What I Preach

October 8, 2009 By Dana White | 10 Comments

2shares 2 0 0I consider myself a teaching mom. I don’t necessarily break out the workbook pages, but I am constantly looking for teachable moments. Life lessons in the midst of everyday situations. About a week ago, my 7 year old son mentioned that he’s not a good runner. He had gone to a cross-country […]

October 8, 2009 By Dana White | Leave a Comment

0shares 0 0 0After yesterday, it feels good to be writing this at 1:33 instead of 10:00. Today I: Made bed. Emptied dishwasher. Cleaned kitchen. Swept kitchen. Did a few loads of laundry, did not put away though. Checked bathrooms for clutter. Did 5 minute walk-through of house. Wiped down bathroom counters and toilets last […]

1share 0 0 1Ugh. I can’t believe I’m just now writing this. I’m so tired that I just checked my own blog to see if maybe I had already posted this but forgot. I hadn’t. Today I: Made bed. Cleaned kitchen. Swept kitchen. Checked bathrooms for clutter. Did walk through of house. As of this […]

Needing to slow down!

October 7, 2009 By Dana White | 1 Comment

2shares 1 0 1I try to make this clear pretty often. Although the most prominent areas of our home are doing pretty well since I started this process, the peripheral areas, such as the bedrooms, closets, pantries, cabinets, and any and every drawer are still incredibly scary. We’ve been having Sunday night home groups meet […]

Seasonal Clothing Changeover – Done in ONE DAY!!!

October 6, 2009 By Dana White | 7 Comments

7shares 1 0 6 I shared yesterday that I had finally given in and done the changeover from Summer clothes to Fall/Winter clothes. It’s a big task that has to be done, twice a year. It’s not the task itself that I’m so proud of, it’s that I’m finished! You wouldn’t even know from walking […]

My husband knows

October 6, 2009 By Dana White | 4 Comments

1share 1 0 0 I’ve been doing this blog for a little over six weeks. (I started on the first day of school so it’s easy to know.) For the first four weeks I didn’t tell my husband. Honestly, he didn’t say much either. Even though our house was quite different, and I was a […]
