I’ll say right now that I totally stink at laundry. Give me a task that can be started and completed in one time period, and I’ll do it. But give me a task that has to be remembered and come back to and my adhd totally kicks in.
I went to bed last night without doing any of my new non-negotiable evening routine. I was sick and was in bed about 20 minutes after the kids went down.
I’m paying for it today. I had to go wipe down the bathroom just now because I got an email from my SIL asking if she could come over for supper. I didn’t run the dishwasher last night, but it needed it, so I had to empty it in the middle of the day. I completely forgot to make lunches last night, or even this morning, so we’ll see how BBQ chicken went over.
I know that Flylady says you still have to do the basics even when you’re sick. I think she’s right. It probably would have taken me 10 minutes to get the dishwasher started and lunches made, and then I wouldn’t be so behind today.
Today I:
Made bed.
Cleaned kitchen.
Swept kitchen.
Didn’t do my before bed routine last night, including finishing a load of laundry and wiping down bathrooms.
So, today I had to fold and put away laundry and wipe down bathrooms.
Checked bathrooms for clutter, and there was definitely some, since I didn’t do that yesterday.
I did one 5 minute walk-through, but I’m thinking I’ll need to do another one before my SIL arrives. The kids moved all the furniture, looking for the remote yesterday, and it’s scary what made it’s way out from underneath the couches!
Time to get back on track.

those basics are so hard to get done when you don’t feel well though! I got up on saturday, got dressed to shoes, decluttered and reorganized two kitchen drawers and a 4-drawer plastic caddy, tried out a homemade stain remover i found on pinterest, and washed every stuffed animal in the house as a pre-cursor to decluttering the toy box…. so when I suddenly started feeling sick to my stomach just before dinner, i felt totally justfied in not doing any dishes at all.
