Vinegar is the idealist housekeeper’s best friend, right? And it’s not too bad on french fries either. (Yes, I’m Texan, but I spent my summers in Canada as a teenager!)
So I thought I’d share some of my vinegar-related posts. The funny thing was, though . . . there are quite a few that have nothing to do with cleaning.

And it would be wrong to not include this one: Reality-Based Green Cleaning
Cooking with Vinegar
Crockpot Stew/Soup/Whatever (The vinegar trick is casually mentioned at the end of that VERY OLD post.)

Oh how I wish I could clean with Vinegar! It would be so cheap and from what I have read multiple times it cleans very well. But I hate the smell of it!!! I can’t stand it! I would have to clean up after cleaning up to get rid of the smell.

Yes, it is a STRONG smell. Sometimes I say my house smells like pasta salad! I know others have infused it with citrus to help with the smell.
Also, the laundry trick doesn’t leave any smell of vinegar on the clothes.

I quickly stopped noticing the scent, but I don’t want everyone else to think my house smells funny, and my husband begged me to do something for the smell. I found online that people add essential oils, including peppermint. I had peppermint extract on hand and added it instead…complaining gone!

I don’t use vinegar for much except a hair rinse once sometimes. But I always, always, always use about 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar with 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda and a little water for indigestion. I used to buy antacids, which may or may not have worked. But vinegar, baking soda and water….it works every time.
If anyone uses it…especially if they use it regularly…use a straw. If you don’t, at least rinse your mouth and eat something like a bite of cheese to neutralize the acid. It can eat away at the tooth enamel. However…if you use a straw, with the end on as far back in your mouth as you can, you can get it down with very little taste. Maybe it’s just me, but I hate the way vinegar tastes. 🙂

That’s great to know! I’ve heard of people putting a bit of apple cider vinegar in cold water as a healthy drink.

Oh…the health benefits of organic ACV (with the mother in it) are amazing. When I first jumped on a bicycle after….a long time….I hurt all over after my first ride. I was also exhausted (because you DO forget, and it takes a lot more effort than you would think to keep from kissing the concrete). So I decided to give the vinegar a try in water.About two hours later, I felt great…and no aches and pains.
I don’t do that often because I really can’t stand the taste. But for indigestion….vinegar, baking soda and water – I’ll never buy another antacid. 🙂

If you don’t like the smell try keeping a mason jar to put all your citrus peels in and cover them with vinegar. When you need a refill just use the vinegar from the mason jar and it will not be a strong and leave a nice citrus smell!! My hubby HATES the smell of vinegar too but after doing this he doesn’t mind so much 🙂 Citrus is also a mood enhancer so it makes you happy to clean! lol

I know vinegar is a miracle cleaner but I sure do hate the smell. My husband keeps filling the spray mop with vinegar and I just about can’t stand to mop. But it does do a good job.

Okay, I have to tell you I laughed when I saw your post today because just yesterday I was talking to some mom friends about how stinking SASSY my child has gotten and how I feel like I’ve lost control of her mouth. As I listed all the discipline tactics that DON’T work, my friend walked over to her cabinet and pulled down a GIANT bottle of vinegar. She said, “Or, you could just do what my pediatrician recommends: a teaspoon of [harmless but nasty-tasting-to-kids] vinegar for mouth-related offenses!”
Feel free to add that one to your list. Heh.

I’ve heard of people doing this. Haven’t tried it . . . and hope I don’t need to !

I’d like a clarification on Kristi’s comment above. She was sore from a bicycle ride. Did she drink the water and vinegar or bathe in it?
Dana White says
I think she drank it.

A small drop of Dawn on that forked tongue also helps. It takes a while for them to get it rinsed out completely.
