Feeling Better

I was so frustrated this morning, but I’m feeling much better now. Nothing psychological, I just cleaned the house. It’s amazing how that works.

I think I’ve said this a thousand and a half times, but I’m amazed at how much easier cleaning is now that I’ve done a lot of decluttering. I sent the kids to work on their rooms and they were actually able to do it mostly on their own, since there’s now designated places for things. I do say mostly, because of that somehow invisible pair of dirty undies that I had to point out six different times.

After they cleaned their rooms, I “let” them do some paid jobs, like cleaning bathrooms and sweeping the front porch, back patio, etc. Well worth the 5.50 I spent.

Again, in the past I wouldn’t have trusted them to clean the bathroom, since it went so long between cleanings that it was a HUGE job. But, even though I haven’t done the daily wipe-down in over a week, it hasn’t been that long since it was thoroughly cleaned, so they could handle it.

Since my dream is to not only re-train myself, but to train my children correctly in housekeeping, this was encouraging. It’s impossible to teach them the basics of wiping down and picking up when I let it get to the point where you need a hazmat suit.

I’m doing a lot of thinking about my personal goal/theme for 2010, so stay tuned next week as I’ll share my plan.

Not doing well

December 22, 2009 By Dana White 3 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I’m very frustrated with myself. I haven’t been doing my daily tasks. A few here and there, but I’ve been rationalizing not doing them all for the last few busy weeks. Yesterday I didn’t write anything, mostly to avoid writing that I hadn’t done anything. Here we are in the midst of […]

Home Again!

December 21, 2009 By Dana White 3 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I had to look to see when my last post was. Last week was crazy, and I definitely didn’t do as well at just keeping up with the daily tasks as I wanted to do. Oh well. Life continues. Friday was a half day of school, but the morning included a two-hour […]

Clutter-Free Christmas Craft

December 17, 2009 By Dana White 3 Comments

440shares 126 0 314 Kids love crafts. I’m always amazed at the pride that beams out of them after making something. Anything.   I love my kids. I love to see my kids’ crafts. There are some that are displayed year after year. But I get totally overwhelmed by the sheer volume of construction paper […]

Christmas Party Prep

December 17, 2009 By Dana White 1 Comment

0shares 0 0 0I love the idea of organizing a second grade class Christmas party. I even love the finished product, and like-a-lot the actual party itself. But all the in-between of coming up with ideas and getting everything together and depending on people I really don’t know to bring certain very necessary items makes […]

My Reason for Doing This

December 15, 2009 By Dana White 3 Comments

1share 0 0 1I took my daughter to the doctor today for what was thankfully an easily diagnosed and treated ear infection. While there, I ran into a high school friend I haven’t seen in years. She asked if I had heard about another friend. A friend who I also haven’t seen in a long […]

Rethinking Christmas Gifts

December 15, 2009 By Dana White 2 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Isn’t this a constant struggle every year? As my kids grow, I am working to get better at this gift-buying thing. And as I work to streamline my home, I am much more aware of bringing “junk” into the house. Therefore, I tried really hard to not buy anything just because it […]

I did SOMEthing.

December 15, 2009 By Dana White 1 Comment

0shares 0 0 0Today was filled from beginning to end with Christmas shopping. The kids were farmed out and I got almost all of it done. But after two hours round trip of driving to get to decent shopping, and arriving home just in time to go immediately to basketball practice, I didn’t feel like […]

Weekly non-negotiable

December 14, 2009 By Dana White 1 Comment

1share 0 0 1Here’s my non-negotiable for the week. Do the tasks I already have as non-negotiables.We’re now in the final stretch of Christmas prep/parties/general craziness. It is so easy for me to completely ignore our home in the midst of craziness. So, my goal for the week isn’t anything lofty. I’m not going to […]
