Crazy Cleaning Day

Well, not as crazy as it could be.
Today I’m trying to notice all the details. Translated, I’m hoping I don’t miss something gross or embarrassing in my house since my husband’s office co-workers are coming over tonight.
I’m pretty much done except for vacuuming and mopping and setting up the food and drinks tables. Thankfully, I’m not making any food except for using the crockpot to make “cider” which is just red hot candies and apple juice. The best thing about that is the awesome smell!
How bad is it that I’m making a big deal about how exciting it will be for us to move a TV into one of the kids rooms just for tonight for them to watch a movie and have a picnic? Maybe that isn’t bad, but it probably is bad that I’m paying them each two dollars if we don’t hear from them during the party.
So I’m basically tackling the house as a whole, but since it is Tackle it Tuesday, I decided to take a picture of my coat closet before, and then after (30 seconds later) when I had removed all of the JUNK that didn’t need to be in there. Yesterday when I looked in there for my dinosaur puppet/ceiling fan cleaner, I was appalled at all of the junk in that teeny tiny space. It’s supposed to be the vacuum cleaner’s home, but I often have to jam the vacuum cleaner in there. So I removed the stuff that didn’t need to be there, and it looks so much better.
The top before:
The floor of the closet before: (On the rare occasions when I actually put the vacuum away, it gets maneuvered on top of all of this.)
The top after: Ahhhhh.
I was excited to take this after picture of the bottom, as it looked so beautifully void of clutter. However, I then remembered that I was still living in reality and that this is where my vacuum cleaner needs to go. So, I took the real after picture after putting the vacuum and its box of attachments back.

As far as daily tasks go, I’m cleaning the entire house, so yes I’ve done the kitchen, bathrooms etc etc.
I did do my evening tasks last night and finished the load of laundry that was in the dryer, made lunches and put out clothes. I’m finding that these things make a HUGE difference in the mornings. But two nights ago I forgot to run the dishwasher so it was not full enough to run last night since I ran and emptied it during the day yesterday. This is really throwing me off of my rhythm.
Also, last night, I didn’t wipe down the bathrooms since I knew that I would be doing major cleaning in them today. I feel pretty justified in that.
[This was a Tackle it Tuesday.]

My Obsession with Gadgets

November 30, 2009 By Dana White | 13 Comments

74shares 74 0 0 Three guesses. I’ll give you a hint. It isn’t a platypus puppet. But I do think it would work better as that. I bought this thing at a garage sale, new in the package, about three years ago. Maybe longer. I took it out of the package this morning. And now […]

My New Non-Negotiable for the Week

November 29, 2009 By Dana White | 10 Comments

1share 0 0 1I didn’t add a new non-negotiable last week. Since I didn’t get back until Monday evening, it really never occurred to me, and things were so off schedule last week that it was a bit pointless anyway. I’ve managed to not let the house become a total sty this week. Just a […]

Slowly, oh so slowly

November 29, 2009 By Dana White | 5 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I’ve worked more in the master today. I’m trying to plow through even though it seems like it will never end. I try to make it my philosophy to focus on thing by thing instead of the big picture when the big picture starts to overwhelm me. I have no idea if […]

Progress . . . and reality

November 28, 2009 By Dana White | 7 Comments

0shares 0 0 0 If you read this blog because you’re a little messy and “hate clutter” you probably won’t understand. But if you’re a true slob, you will. Do you know that point when you start to work on a REALLY bad room and you get about half way done and then it just […]

Help . . . I need an excuse!

November 27, 2009 By Dana White | 4 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I would like to find an excuse. But I’m afraid there isn’t one. Tonight and tomorrow are off-the-schedule kind of days, and it’s weighing heavily on me that I should work on the master bedroom. Our bedroom. Our scary bedroom. Really, our bedroom is more like a storage room right now than […]

551shares 549 0 2 To all of those in that new, starry-eyed, heartrate-increasing, better-than-food stage of new love, you may have been asked the following question by someone who is both wise and well-meaning. Can you see yourself with this person ten years from now? What a wonderful question! And yet it is a little […]

5 Minute Memory Makers

November 26, 2009 By Dana White | 16 Comments

1.3Kshares 654 0 599 One of the big problems with being a slob, and a mom, is that a house out of control can make you feel overwhelmed, and the overwhelmed feeling can keep you from doing the neat little projects that you read about and want to do with your kids. So having the […]

My Off-Balance World

November 25, 2009 By Dana White | 4 Comments

1share 0 1 0I’m off balance in more ways than one. First of all, I still feel the boat moving, and I got off more than two days ago. I’m ready for this equilibrium problem, or whatever it is, to stop. Secondly, and mainly, things are off-balance because they are out of routine. It’s a […]
