Daily Checklist and a "What’s the Point?" moment

Out of our three kids we don’t have an official sleepwalker.

We do, however, have a “sleep-pee-er.” I made up that word, so you might have to sound it out to get it.

Last night, less than an hour after doing my nightly task of wiping down the bathroom counters and toilets, my husband and I heard something. It was a shuffling and then a scraping sound. A LOUD scraping sound. So I looked into my kids’ bathroom to see my son sleeppee–ing. I’m sure he does this nightly, but it so happened that the seat and the toilet lid were both down.

Yep.

So of course, pee was going everywhere. Everywhere that I had just wiped down.

But what, you ask, was the LOUD scraping sound? He hadn’t meant to pee onto the closed toilet seat. In fact, I’m assuming that his sleeping self thought that he had lifted the seat.

But what he had really lifted was the lid of the tank at the back of the toilet. Yes, the big heavy lid. It was leaned back against the wall. I belly laughed.

I guess that I should be thankful that he didn’t climb up on the seat and pee into the tank.

So, I wonder what is the point of wiping down the bathroom when things like this are going to happen within the hour. But really, that is the point. Even if the tank lid doesn’t get mistaken for the toilet lid every night, I’m thinking sleep fog might have something to do with why there’s almost always pee on the floor when I wipe down the toilet . . . every . . . single . . . night.

And while boys are notorious for missing the toilet, lest you think girls are immune, I remember laughing heartily at a friend whose daughter used to regularly sleep-pee in her trashcan.

It still makes me laugh typing that now.

And for my daily checklist:

Today I:

Made bed.

Emptied dishwasher.

Cleaned kitchen.

Swept kitchen.

Did focused 5 minute pick-up.

Started laundry, and then put in dryer.

Checked bathrooms for clutter.

Last night I:

Made lunches.

Laid out clothes for boys.

Checked laundry which actually meant putting it from the washer to the dryer. (I’m hoping to get totally caught up today, and back on rhythm)

Wiped down bathroom counters and toilets.

Also I folded and put away the clean laundry that had piled up from never completing that task last week.

And I put back together the office, which I’m about to write about in a Tackle it Tuesday post.

November 9, 2009 By Dana White | 5 Comments

0shares 0 0 0 Has it only been a week since I made the last menu plan? It feels like forever ago. I did make a few things from the plan, but I was also blessed by someone making us a surprise meal. Here goes: Monday – chicken pot pie using the frozen cooked chicken […]

Getting back on Track

November 9, 2009 By Dana White | 4 Comments

0shares 0 0 0 Finally a normal Monday, except that I’m having a hard time keeping my eyes open. I thoroughly enjoyed working on and doing the show I was in this weekend, but it has reminded me why I can’t do it on a regular basis at this time in my life. I knew […]

I am alive

November 9, 2009 By Dana White | 7 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Quick update. I’ve been crazy busy for the past week with the painting, rehearsals, performances, dropping off kids at grandma’s an hour away, etc. Yes, it’s an excuse. The state of my home? Could be a lot worse. I allowed an hour and 10 minutes to get it ready for people to […]

0shares 0 0 0I’m a zombie today! Almost every muscle in my body is aching from the painting, but IT’S DONE!!!!! I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday, but I couldn’t muster the strength to type more than a few words. So here’s the painted wall. I’m not ready to show the entire room since I […]

Choosing the Hard Way

November 3, 2009 By Dana White | 2 Comments

0shares 0 0 0I can’t tell you how much I wanted to skip my Daily Checklist post and just do this Tackle it Tuesday post. I love big projects with showy results. This paint job is going to make such a noticeable difference. Sweeping the kitchen and emptying the dishwasher? They’re only noticeable if I […]

Daily Checklist

November 3, 2009 By Dana White | 2 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Today’s Daily Checklist is not one to be proud of. It is incomplete. I didn’t wipe down bathrooms last night, or make lunches, or finish a load of laundry. I did lay out clothes, but grumbled while I did it. I didn’t wake up this morning and remember to start a load […]

My new Non-Negotiable for the Week

November 2, 2009 By Dana White | 9 Comments

2shares 0 2 0We had a busy, fun weekend. I posted early Saturday morning, but then never sat down to post again. But I did do most of my tasks this weekend. I cleaned and swept the kitchen both days, picked up the main areas on both days, and cleaned the main bathroom, vacuumed and […]
