Rethinking Christmas Gifts

Isn’t this a constant struggle every year?

As my kids grow, I am working to get better at this gift-buying thing.

And as I work to streamline my home, I am much more aware of bringing “junk” into the house.

Therefore, I tried really hard to not buy anything just because it looked cool. That momentary gasp of excitement is not worth the total frustration of seeing that toy completely neglected and being turned into “clutter.”

So, overall, I feel pretty good about the gifts this year. They are all very kid-specific. I can’t guarantee that each and every gift will be a home-run, but I’m okay with each item being added to our home.

I am in the same frame of mind. I think every person should clean toy rooms and the child's bedroom before going out shopping. My oldest is 7 and we did not buy him one toy.

I started this 2 years ago. This past year I did awesome! We buy something to wear, something to read, something they want, and something they need. I also add a special set of pj’s, a movie, and hot cocoa to open on Christmas eve.
