Working in My Weekly Tasks

I’ve been considering experimenting with my weekly task schedule.  Even though it works well do one major task a day, I’m a little overwhelmed with other commitments right now and had wondered if I could double up some days to give myself a day off here and there.  Not a day off for couch-sitting, but a day off for big-project-that-takes-multiple-hours-and-full-focus tackling.

Last Thursday, I was forced to experiment.  I thought that I would be able to do all of my weekly tasks to get back on track for a coffee-get-together on Friday morning.  But . . . I failed to check the calendar to see that Tuesday was full of dentist appointments for all three kids.

Oops.

So I had to double up on Thursday morning in order to get the bathrooms cleaned AND the kitchen mopped before people started ringing the doorbell on Friday.

I mopped the kitchen first, which is a much quicker job now that I’ve done it consistently enough that I actually know what I’m doing.

And then I started on the bathrooms.  I generally don’t mop the bathrooms.  Mostly, it’s because I only have one mop, and it grosses me out to think about using the same mop in the kitchen and bathroom.

But Thursday, since I did the kitchen floor first, I decided to be crazy and mop the bathrooms too.  See, I have the fabulous Libman Wonder Mop, which can go in the WASHING MACHINE!!!

Just pop it off of the handle and wash it.  So, after I did the kitchen, and then the bathroom, I washed it along with the rag I used for cleaning.  I’ve always loved that mop because it cleans well.  (Believe me, I’ve tried many many mops.)   I’m so excited to figure out a way to motivate me to do a better job cleaning bathrooms.

For some reason, mopping makes me clean better.  I would generally wipe down the floors, but that makes it so easy to ignore a few things here and there. Knowing that I’m going to mop makes me get every last piece of trash off of the floor, and sweep it really well.  The bathroom looks so much better and thoroughly clean.

I’m excited to try combining these two tasks.  It really did help to do them on the same day because I was already in cleaning mode.  And if I can free up another day for some major decluttering projects, or . . . maybe . . . .painting my entry way . . . even better!

The Queen of What-If Scenarios

November 9, 2010 By Dana White 4 Comments

203shares 201 0 2 I mentioned last week that for the first time ever, I received a notice that a charity organization was going to be collecting donations in my neighborhood.  I live in a small town, and things like that aren’t as common here as they are in some larger cities. I was so […]

November 8, 2010 By Dana White 110 Comments

48.7Kshares 18.9K 7 29.8K The holidays are pretty much here. I’m guessing that there are very few people who host holiday gatherings without feeling any stress at all. And if your home is messy (or worse than messy), you’re probably already experiencing panic at the thought of getting it clean and ready for the guests […]

Oops . . . I Think I Just Decluttered Something

November 5, 2010 By Dana White 14 Comments

166shares 153 0 13 Last week, I did the Big Kitchen Scrub-Down. I didn’t take a before picture, because I didn’t think it would make that much of a difference. The issue we were dealing with was grime, not clutter, and would that even show up in a photo? I should have known better. First […]

How Much Can A Slob Do In Fifteen Minutes?

November 4, 2010 By Dana White 8 Comments

240shares 234 0 6 I’m a little stressed for time this week.  Fitting in everything I need/want to do isn’t working out the way I planned. Generally, I do my cleaning and decluttering projects in the mornings.  But this afternoon, I went against every fiber of my being and worked on the office some more.  […]

An Old Trick That Finally Makes Sense

November 2, 2010 By Dana White 12 Comments

8shares 8 0 0 My mother, the one who knows where to put EVERYthing, gave me a piece of advice many times through the years that really didn’t make any sense to me. She said to put my pajamas under my pillow to be worn the next night. Great trick . . . except that […]

An Idyllic Life

November 2, 2010 By Dana White 4 Comments

0shares 0 0 0We had an idyllic weekend. Even though “technical difficulties” kept us from leaving when we wanted to, and meant that we only had one night away from home instead of two, it was a peaceful and relaxing weekend. We went to the lake, and the weather was beautiful. The kids played non-stop […]

A Clothing Explosion . . . and Various Other Things to Be Dealt With

0shares 0 0 0 That’s my bed . . . at this very moment. It’s scary looking, but could be much worse.  I’m actually rather proud that those clothes are folded.  I’m not putting off folding until the afternoon like I often do.  Two more loads now, and every last stitch of clothing in the […]

Decluttering Progress Report – October

November 1, 2010 By Dana White 2 Comments

0shares 0 0 0Really? October’s over? Whatever. But I do love the reminder to go back over my progress for the month so I can participate in the Decluttering Challenge over at The Finer Things in Life. Last month, my focus was the master bedroom.  This wasn’t some well-planned, goal-oriented thing, it was out of necessity.  […]
