I love the idea of the gifts per child to represent to them the three gifts from the wise men to Jesus. We actually do give our kids three gifts, but depending on how we spent the budget for a given child, one gift packages together may contain multiple items. But the reason for the number was just that it was as low as we wanted to go.

Decreasing the number of Christmas gifts to decrease the clutter makes more sense to me now than it would have not too long ago. My goal is to reclaim my living area as fast as possible, so the toys going to the play area is something that happens pretty quickly. Books upstairs, DVDs to the basement. The house is still a wreck for some time, regardless!

2 Christmas Things we do in our family

    1) We travel to see both my husbands and my parents in the same day (as of right now we have to travel 15 hours away so we have suitcases for 5 plus gift to bring down as well) so our families are on strict instructions to keep gifts relatively small in size or small in numbers.

    2) I have two sets of stockings for our family – why? One is on display leading up to christmas and the other is in my closet, I load them as I buy so I don’t overbuy! Then christmas eve I do a switch-a-roo
