It’s Day Three of Project Home Recovery.
I’ve officially passed the halfway point between oh-my-word-I’m-really-going-to-host-a-party-on-SATURDAY? and let-them-in-the-front-door.
I spent today going to Bible Study, running errands and gathering party supplies.
After I picked up the kids from school, my daughter and I (once again) tackled her room.
Now, let me just say I had planned on doing a Sneak Attack Declutter in her room this week. Those work so much better when we’re on a deadline.
But . . . the times when I had to work on her room were the times when she was home.
The picture doesn’t show much difference, but I promise . . . there’s a difference. Perhaps I should have straightened the bed. (Details, details.)
Basically, other than the bed, we did focus on details. We sorted and purged and got random trash out from under every surface where it could possibly hide.
Now, it’s ready for the real cleaning. Like, the dusting and vacuuming and such that can’t even be done when there’s clutter everywhere.
And that’s tomorrow. I’m NOT looking forward to it, but my goal is to get ALL cleaning done tomorrow so I can focus on party prep on Friday.
We’ll see how it goes!

I’ve been recovering my home this week, too – although without a big deadline, so as you can imagine, I haven’t accomplished QUITE as much as I’d hoped. Still, my kitchen is finally, finally clean again; I’ve cleaned my toilet; laundry is caught up (FOR NOW); and my daughter’s room is no longer embarrassing. Now to tackle the dining room table and desk (aka, where the PILES live…)…

I am so unrealistic when I think about what all I can get done during the day… or rather the night or weekends since I have a full-time job. You have inspired me to break down what I need to do into chunks instead of trying to just save it all for one marathon cleaning session, which I NEVER have time for.
Tuesday I took a bunch of donations over to the DNA center. Yesterday I emptied two laundry baskets of kids’ clothes (they were clean, but had been stuck in a closet when guests came), took down our daughter’s pack-n-play now that she’s back in her crib, and rearranged her room to give her room to play or look at books.
Normally, I would have felt defeated that I didn’t get everything done. But why? I’ve made progress! I only have two more baskets to empty, instead of four :). And although I didn’t actually take a before and after shot, it really does look tons better already!!
So thank you Nony for sharing your deslobification journey with the world!

Two plus years later and this is so helpful. I read day 4…then backed up to read 1-3. It is Thur and I need a schedule like this for next week. I’m hosting my daughter’s baby shower in my home. I’ve been a frantic wreck planning, preparing, and fretting over how to do it all. Your daily schedule was like a life raft in my sinking ship. Why oh why did I agree to host this here…oh yeah…all locations were too expensive or too small. Sorry to ramble….stress does that. Thank you..
