Friday morning, Hubby carefully assessed my mental state and gently broke the news.
The freezer side of our side-by-side fridge wasn’t cooling. Things were melting and water was leaking out and covering the floor. Soon, we realized the fridge side wasn’t working either.
Soooo, we loaded up the rolling ice-chest and made a few trips to haul the still-mostly-frozen stuff to the deep-freeze in the garage, and the most necessary refrigerated items to the small fridge in the gameroom.
In a moment of forced optimism, Hubby decided that the bright side was that I hadn’t done much grocery shopping lately and we didn’t have a lot of food in the fridge anyway.
Har-dee-har-har-har, Honey . . . .
Sooo, as I found countless treasures in the recesses of the freezer, I decided to avoid the Massive Grocery Trip a little while longer and try to eat from the freezer as much as possible.
Our Menu Plan this week:
Monday – Spaghetti (using the last bits of three different bags of frozen pre-cooked ground beef)
Tuesday – Deli Wraps
Wednesday –Chicken Fried Rice (using frozen rice and frozen chicken)
Thursday – Quesadillas
Friday – Out to Eat
Saturday – Grill Out
What’s on your menu this week?
Oh, and be sure to get your copy of my e-book, Teaching Kids to Clean!
I’ll be linking this up to Menu Plan Monday over at Orgjunkie.com.
I remember you saying before that the fridge had some other issues – one of them being a door that doesn’t stay shut, if I remember right? PLEASE tell me you’re replacing it now! Check Craigslist if you don’t want a brand-new one. And, good job using up the old stuff. I “got in trouble” this weekend for buying food when I could have made-do. :/
Hooray for your husband looking on the bright side. 🙂 Thanks for the free download of Grocery University!
I haven’t been able to stop by for awhile, I hate to see that your having frig problems.. My husband doesn’t take things like that very well, not that there is much that could have been done to have prevented it, he is just that way. Mine is working, but for how long who knows? I am cleaning it out this week which is how I put my meal plan together.
Mon-chicken with fresh takes coating, slaw, baked beans
Tues-pizza burgers/ sweet potato fries
Wed- sausage, eggs, biscuit/gravy
Thurs- Club sandwiches, potato salad
Fri- grilled pimento cheese sandwiches, strawberries/grapes
Sat- Strawberry cheesecake flavored french toast, bacon
Sun- Father’s Day cookout(not sure what yet)
OMG! that is me today! luckily I have a small fridge and large freezers to put most of the stuff. The repairman is on his way. Not sure if there is hope for the fridge or not! Kinda hope there isn’t hope. 😉
We decided that since there were six(teen) other things wrong with it and everything we read made it seem like our problem was an expensive one to fix, we’d just replace it!
I do the freezing hamburger thing too, have for years, I get the really cheap 1 qt zip locks, put two cups of the cooled cooked hamburger in each bag, seal and then throw all of them in a quality freezer zip lock, and throw in the freezer. Two cups is aprox. 1 lb cooked, (I often put a bit less in each bag so it goes further, ) so it is in a meal sized portion, then I don’t end up with bits in a few bags. Then I can reuse the good sturdy gallon or two zip lock bag over and over. Anyway, just my tip of the day! 🙂
If the freezer on your refrigerator isn’t working, the fridge side will not cool either. The fridge side gets its cool air from the freezer. There is a vent (damper) between the freezer and fridge. A fan usually kicks on and pushes the cold air from the freezer into the fridge side.
Now, if the door seal for the fridge is not sealing properly anymore, it can cause the fridge to not cool properly due to air leaks.
The AC/R student in me cried out to share this bit of knowledge.
I’m glad you shared!
