Quick Job, Quick Post

I didn’t have much time today.
My choices?  Pretend I was doing very important bloggy-stuff on the computer, or see what I could do on another clutter spot in the office.
The office . . . which I tend to think is fine because the floor is generally clear and  it is so much better than it used to be pre-blog.
But which, in truth, has had no clutter-free flat surfaces.
After about 15 minutes, the right-inside-the-door-perfect-for-dumping-random-stuff-dresser-which-I’ve-seriously-considered-getting-rid-of-completely-but-haven’t-had-the-nerve clutter spot, looked like this . . .

OK, in all honesty, this was the second after-picture that I took.  In the first one, I tried very hard to keep from showing underneath the dresser, while looking like not showing the floor was completely accidental.

I couldn’t do it.  (Not out of principle, just because I couldn’t get a decent picture without showing the floor.)

So I cleaned out underneath.

Now, after this project and the one from earlier in the week, if you stand at a specific spot in this room, hold your head still, and agree to not use your peripheral vision, the room looks clean.

Normal people clean, not just good-enough-for-me clean.

That's funny because that's how our office is. Actually, the room is a mess! We are getting getting sick of it being the office room because it can become the dumping area really easy when we are in a rush to clean up. I am working on the office this week. 😛 Its a big job. We have a table like that in my bedroom that becomes a dumping table. Yet it's an important table just for the sake of decorating so it's here to stay.

Good job! I love it when a small job makes a difference in a whole room. Last weekend I made a huge dent in my craft/computer room… but still, only that side of the room is decluttered. It's babysteps for me.

Things have not been working out the way I planned. Right after I found your blog and had started trying to get my house in order I got sick. I was sick for an entire month and the house just got worse. Last weekend I had an emergency surgery and had lost 3 pints of blood. My mom came to care for me and the kids, since I cannot lift anything for 6 weeks, and my hubby will be at work during the days. I feel incredibly guilty watching my mom clean my house. I want to say that once I get well I'll keep it completely clean, the way she will leave it, but I can't say that. I will try to keep it up better, but can't make any guarantees. This recovery is a lot harder than recovering from child birth, and that is the only thing I've had to recover from. Anyway, I'll quit rambling. Just hoping to be able to do it all when I can.

Oh Jennifer, I'm so sorry you've been so ill. I know exactly how you feel about the guilt over watching your mother clean your house. My mom did it for me several times after kids were born, etc. Maybe you could think of her work as a headstart/blessing on getting back to what you were working on doing anyway, rather than feeling guilt over not being able to keep it completely clean.

Hope you get better soon! ANd remember, it's a journey. Keeping on walking, doing little things, is what it's all about.

One thing I thought when I saw your last post about this area was, why not go the other way with it? People put stuff there? Ok, find a way to make that a spot where stuff should get put!

Get a number of bins/containers, and either have one for each family member, or have one for each place you guys go: school, work (hubby), church, grocery store/errands, etc, and anything that needs to go out the door with that person/out the door to that place gets put in those bins so it can be grabbed just before going? Just a suggestion, ymmv.
