It’s SUMMER!!!
I love this fun and crazy and unscheduled time of year with my kids, but the lack of routine sends my house into chaos!
For the summer, I’m focusing on the four simple habits that will keep (or bring) any home out of Disaster Status.
Technically, summer hasn’t started yet for us. With the craziness of the end of school, though, I’m focusing on these four tasks to survive.
Yesterday, I was motivated by the fact that we were having a new (CRAZY EXPENSIVE) AC unit installed and I didn’t want the men tripping over anything on their way to the attic.
Here’s how we did:
Do the dishes
Sweep the kitchen
Check bathrooms for clutter (I only checked the half-bath since that’s the one they might use.)
Do a five-minute pick-up
Our extra task for today:
Nada. I was doing good to get 3.25 tasks done.
How did you do today?

If you’re completely overwhelmed at even the thought of the four habits listed here, don’t worry! I totally understand! I recommend my books: How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind and Decluttering at the Speed of Life for a step-by-step guide to getting your home out of Disaster Status.

After I post, I’m off to do the hand wash dishes. That is the last thing on my list for today. Time stamp 9:25 CDT.

Yesterday, I did get the dishes clean, striped sheets from the bed, got them washed AND put back on the bed!! There were a few other tasks, but those were the most important to get done.

I can totally get on board with no routines. Well…except for the litter box. Some routines can never be neglected. 😀

My mantra has been “Dishes, Dinner, Laundry”. I would chant it all day to remind myself to focus on the critical tasks that had to get done every day.
About a month ago, though, I read a post of yours about the way you learn. It gave me permission to try doing ONE BIG laundry day every week, instead of trying to do a little laundry EVERY blessed day. It is working out BEAUTIFULLY!
Now, I need a new mantra. May work with your summer checklist for that…
Thanks!

Everyday I do trash, dishes and laundry. I may not start a clothes load everyday or even put on away but I always bring all the dirty clothes to the laundry room. Plus I do a quick pick up right before I go to bed. I do big chores sporadically during the week but somehow it all gets done mostly.

I need to post this list all over my house this summer. Along with “make bed”. My husband and I were having the “need to get house under control” conversation last night. As we stared at a mound of clean laundry, which I did get put away today (yay).

As bit well a lot of a slob I really recommend 28 days for hope other books make me feel inadequate. I have discovered that I am actually a bit of a perfectionist and if the whole house can’t be perfect why bother? Now I don’t do as much stress I do the dishes and if that’s all I do it’s ok it’s something sometimes I have to take a step back and start again and I’m okish about that now only thing is I’ve lost my kindle in the antes that is my home instead of tearing the house apart I’m doing the dishes deck uttering the bathroom and it will turn up thanks Dana xx

Ahh, it’s actually 5/29/24. Hehe. Today I did some dishes, swept the floor, picked up a few things. Entered receipts in Every dollar. Got several donations out of the house. Mailed mortgage. Gathered some camp stuff. Put away some smaller clothes of mine. And several other tasks.
It was a busy day with no naps, which is sorta odd for me, especially while pregnant.
I’m a napper in general, cause overwhelm.
