It's a big day around here. I don't know if you've noticed, but I've never actually shown my kids. I know most bloggers do, and it's not that I'm against it, but this blog has been about me and my issues and not really about them. But . . . since Teaching Kids to Clean is the theme around here this summer, I've enlisted them to make some … [Read more...]

Our Water Baseball Game!
We love summer around here. It doesn't seem like things slow down much, but at least we're mostly doing things WE want to do. The only negative about summer . . . is the heat. We're in Texas, and Texas is hot. Crazy hot. I can't handle the thought of my kids sitting inside for the entire summer, so we pay the (insane) membership fee at … [Read more...]
Week Two Progress Report for our Summer of Clean
Thanks to Discount Cleaning Products for sponsoring June's posts in this series! Summer flies by. I'm in shock/awe/horror that two weeks are already gone. So how did our second week of the Summer of Clean go? (Did you get your copy of my new e-book, Teaching Kids to Clean?) As recently as last night, I honestly thought I was going … [Read more...]
My Double Standard
Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I'm thirty-eight years old. Because the temptation to pout like a four year old can just be so strong. I mentioned on Monday that our fridge died last week. I was NOT in the mood to shop for a new one, and didn't properly adjust my attitude before I headed to the Second-Hand Fridge Store on Saturday … [Read more...]
Non-Toxic Homemade Heavy Duty Shower Cleaner
OK. I rarely claim that my lightbulb moments are life-changing, but I believe this one is. I have discovered a non-toxic, homemade HEAVY DUTY shower cleaner. Seriously. Are you ready? It has only two ingredients and one cleaning tool. The tool? A heavy-duty scrubbing sponge. The "ingredients"? Dish soap. Elbow … [Read more...]
Teaching Kids to Clean Bathrooms
Bathrooms are my personal least favorite space to clean. They are, however, one of the most important to keep clean. The good thing about bathrooms is that cleaning is fairly straightforward. There aren’t as many decisions to be made or judgment calls as with laundry. The bad thing about bathrooms is that . . . they’re disgusting. Or … [Read more...]
Unexpected Freezer Cleanout
Friday morning, Hubby carefully assessed my mental state and gently broke the news. The freezer side of our side-by-side fridge wasn't cooling. Things were melting and water was leaking out and covering the floor. Soon, we realized the fridge side wasn't working either. Soooo, we loaded up the rolling ice-chest and made a few trips to haul … [Read more...]
OxiClean for the Dishwasher
I remember a conversation I had years ago, when I was the mom of two baby boys (both younger than two) and was struggling to keep my head above water. A conversation with a friend who was in a very different stage of life. She said something along the lines of, "If I EVER find myself talking about the price of a gallon of milk . . . I'll … [Read more...]
Week One Progress Report for Our Summer of Clean
Thanks to Discount Cleaning Products for sponsoring this series! I'm sitting down to write about our first week of the 2012 Summer of Clean, and just above the laptop screen I see . . . clothes. They're sorted, they're ready to be put in drawers or in storage. But they're not. Not in drawers or in storage. (pause) OK. I'm … [Read more...]
