I’ll share my plans for the new year in my next post, but first . . . I need to get my menu plan out of the way for the week.
Menu planning may not be something I look forward to, and it generally involves me tapping my fingers on the keys while trying to think of something we haven’t eaten (three times) in the last few weeks, but I’ve accepted that it’s a must.
Since feeding my family is the one thing that can’t be put off . . . getting a plan in place frees me up do the other things I need and want to do without coming to a screeching halt every day at five o’clock.
So here goes:
(I’m even including tonight’s meal, Sunday.)
Sunday: Grilled chicken and pasta and black-eyed peas. (Actually, I’ll probably only eat one single black-eyed pea . . . and only so my MIL won’t be horrified that I tempted fate by not eating any for good luck.)
Monday: Our favorite Chicken Fried Rice . . . but with brown rice.
Tuesday: Porcupines
Wednesday: Tortilla Soup
Thursday: Skillet Lasagna
Friday: Out to Eat
Saturday: Potato Soup
There. It’s done. Now on to the more-fun stuff!
I’ll be linking this up to Menu Plan Monday over at Orgjunkie.com.

I menu plan off and on so I think that’s what I’ll make more of a priority this year. With some nights being so busy it makes life so much easier yet I don’t do it every week. I’m not a new years resolutions type person so I wont’ even go there. And, chicken fried rice is sounding good this week!

Hi, I’ve just discovered your blog, greetings from Chelmsford, Essex (England). I’m finding it very useful.
Your menu looks good but do you plan breakfasts and lunches?

Hi Joy!
I’m so glad you found my blog!
I don’t plan breakfasts and lunches. We generally have various options for those things and the kids choose from those options and make their own. Cereal, bagels, breakfast pockets, etc. for breakfast. Lunches are sandwiches for the kids’ school lunches, and hubby takes leftovers for his lunch. I scrounge around and eat leftovers or impromptu creations for my lunch at home.

Sounds good to me!

We have black eyed peas too! It’s a pretty good recipe from Virginia Hospitality with beans, rice, bacon, *and* pork, but the beans put me off! I eat a bite for good luck though. Husband makes me eat a bite of sauerkraut too! Yuck!

Ooh, your menu plan looks so good, totally saving the “porcupines” recipe! How do you menu plan each week? woo hooooooo!!!!! i can’t believe i am actually caught up to only 7 weeks behind “real time” !!! i am soooo excited!!!
as for meal planning, one thing i have done is make a list of things we like to eat. then asked the hubs what his 5 fave main dishes were and put stars by those. also made a list of possible side dishes and desserts. i find that if i don’t refer to this list on a regular basis, i end up making the same three or four things over. and over. and over. i keep the master list in a notebook that i use as a planner. i use post it notes so i can reuse the same pages over and over and my meal for each night gets put on a post it at the bottom of that day’s page. then if for some reason, we don’t have the meal on the assigned day, i can just pull the post it and move it to next week or later this week. works for me……and it’s not even wednesday. 🙂

Wahoooo! I made it all the way to 2012 … starting from your very first blog post. Since it’s the last Saturday in September, I’m deciding if I want to jump on board with the 31 Days of “something” starting Monday. My basement is a disaster zone. Storage zones gone amuck! But … we’re also attempting to re-do all three bedrooms for our daughters. Oldest is turning 16 in a few months and really wants a desk in her room. Selling nursery furniture, shifting bedroom sets and buying a new piece or two means completely emptying all three rooms. Might as well paint while we’re at it, right?! Think I can clean and organize the basement during October and complete the three bedrooms by Thanksgiving? I must be crazy!!!
