I am nervous about jinxing myself with this statement, but I’m going to say it anyway:
I’ve had my iPhone for more than two years and I have never (really) lost it.
As a chronic lose-er, this is kind of a big deal.
Soon after I got it, I did have ten minutes of panic when I left it in a nearby room at church, and I do regularly call it so I can locate it as I’m ready to walk out the door, but I’ve never lost it lost it.
Like, can’t-find-it-for-a-week lost it.
I believe this is because I use it. A lot. So I’m highly motivated to find my phone quickly when it does disappear, before it has a chance to be buried for the long term.
I also can easily think back to the last time I used it and where I was when I used it.
I can also find our charger easily. Because Hubby and I use our phones a lot, we charge them nightly. (Actually, he charges them. Thankfully.)
But I am nervous, terribly nervous, about losing my Kindle charger.
I’m using my Kindle like crazy, but it only needs to be charged about every three weeks.
THREE weeks! Do you know what can happen around here in three weeks?!?!
Thankfully, both times I’ve needed to charge it (since the original charge on Christmas day), the charger has been in its designated spot. But each time, I’ve held my breath while walking to that designated spot, carrying the just-like-a-book-but-not-a-real-book-since-it-has-to-be-CHARGED Kindle.
I just don’t have a good record with these kinds of things . . .
I’m telling myself that I will NEVER ever ever charge it anywhere but in that spot so the charger will never move.
But I’m still nervous.
______________
I can’t help myself. I’m linking to Amazon (via my affiliate link, of course) just in case you’ve been wanting a Kindle and today’s the day you decide to buy it. Here’s the Kindle I have. I love it. It’s the cheapest, least fancy one and it’s exactly what I wanted. No pages to flutter or fall closed (at the gym or in bed). I just prop it up against Hubby’s shoulder and hit the little button when I want to turn a page. It also is NOT backlit and does NOT allow for internet browsing. I look at computer screens enough/too much as it is and I wanted something that looks as close to a real book as possible.

Even though you are nervous about finding the charger, you’ve still made progress. It’s still there right?
Wilma says
Could you make a little charging station, to make it more permanent?
Good luck!!

I got a kindle for Christmas too! I have only paid for a couple of books for it (I’m a sucker for the free ones!) but I did buy your 2 book set – and loved reading it! One extra thing I love about the kindle is that I can use a phone charger with it, you know, just in case the original charger gets misplaced… it seems to happen often around here!

Thanks for buying the e-books! I’ll check to see if my son’s phone charger will fit!

Kindle and Nook users… don’t forget your public library. With a library card, you may have access to a TON of books for free download. If you download and read often, you may be more inclined to keep up with the device and charger!
Kelly says
My phone and kindle can use the same charger, did you try that? Could you keep the kindle charger with your phone charger?
Dana White says
Hmmm. I have an iPhone, so it doesn’t fit. But I wonder if my son’s phone would?
Kelekona says
If your son’s charger fits into the kindle’s charging slot, it should put out enough juice to satisfy the kindle. New chargers are also cheap and very easy to buy. Your system means that you’re not going to end up with half a dozen chargers for one or two devices.
Kelekona says
At least you have an Iphone, otherwise you would never use the dedicated kindle charger because the phone charger would fit.

I just bought a new charger. Busted.

I have had my Kindle for 3 years and I haven’t lost the charger yet. Then again, that charger fits my phone, my MP3 player as well as the Kindle. So something is always plugged into it. 🙂

I charge my kindle every night. I wish mine lasted for 3 weeks on one charge. It is the one thing I haven’t lost yet either…my husband teases me because my glasses end up in a different spot almost daily…lol.
Dana White says
Is it a Kindle fire? My boys have those and the charges go down fast! I’m amazed at how long this one lasts!
Rachael says
It is a kindle fire hd. Awesome gadget. I had the 2nd generation kindle and my parents got me this one a couple of months ago. A nice toy 🙂

Congratulations on not losing your charger! I’m not so lucky. I’ve lost mine on several occasions. Luckily when we could no longer afford the iPhone monthly price and switched to another carrier we had to get compatible phones that were Android. So I have oodles of chargers I can pop my Kindle into. I’m not sure if it’s safe, so I’m not recommending doing that (or leaving it on a phone charger for an extended period because who knows why) but to get it charged back up? It works. I like when things work. Of course, it’s always better to just not lose the charger, which you’re doing, so HIGH FIVE 🙂

I’m am so with you! Sounds alike me and a number of things…. Though not my ipad, because I have to charge it everyday. And I put a docking charger in the kitchen so its more convenient to read my recipes,( for 5$ on amazon totally worth it!) plus a charger on my night stand, and one in my purse with a lighter plug and wall plug, again CHEAP off amazon. 🙂 have a great day!

I have one of the backlit Kindles and I LOVE it. I do like the backlit feature (we have an older one that doesn’t backlight…I guess my older eyes do better with backlighting.) Like someone else said, you may well be able to borrow Kindle books from your library. That has saved me a bunch of money because sometimes I do have a yen for something new and exciting, and I’ll just borrow a book…that takes the urge to buy something away :-). Yeah for keeping track of the charger! I think we have 2 or 3 kicking around but right now I can only find one. But one is all I need.

It’s the old creature of habit thingy. Having burned through a few cheapo cords (and at one point owning 10 pairs of reader eyeglasses so I’d never be without, I’ve since narrowed it down to 1 cord for house (besides the cable connected to computer for internet access, another topic altogether), 1 cord for car, and 1 pair of reading glasses. The trick for me is charging cord and glasses are on night stand. No other place made sense for their ‘happy homes’. Maybe that (making a conscious decision to solve the problem and binding it to another decision) will be the trick for you, too.

Any micro USB charger will work. Buy one off Amazon with reviews saying it charges fast. The slower ones can be hard on the devices. Name brand chargers are the best. I just got a Motorola micro USB for the car and it is amazingly fast for only $6 off amazon.

I understand completely. Someone will ask me to such and such, and all I can think is…”I won’t be able to do that if I can’t find the ________ (fill in the blank)” I hate that feeling. It’s been the source of a lot of anxiety over the years. As I slowly get things organized, I deal with it less and less. It is a huge weight off my shoulders and mind after an area is cleaned out.

I was a little concerned about the same thing, though for some reason I was more concerned about my camera charger. And in my office, it’s easy to misplace something. But then one day I straightened the top drawer in my desk. I put similar things in zip top snack bags (highlighters in one, markers in another, etc…). My electronics chargers got slightly larger bag. Amazingly enough, this has continued to work for me for about six months. When something is finished charging, I wrap the cord in a rubber band and back into the bag (and drawer) it goes. One of the few organizational changes I’ve tried that actually works. Now I just need for it to spread to the top of my desk, shelves, and filing cabinet. 😀

We all have iDevices here as well, but think the new mini charger fits the kindle – I might be wrong. It could be my Bluetooth charger that fir it. Hmmm…hopefully I will never have to find out. LOL anyway, I keep my kindle charger in my nightstand drawer and pull it out when I need it. I charge my phone on my nightstand at night and my iPad for a while during the day. And we use find my phone a lot 😉

I made myself a charging station for everything.
I bought a power strip, plugged it in behind my bed, and everything is plugged into that. Mine rests along the side of my platform bed, and when the bed is made doesn’t show, but it could be attached to the back side of a bedside table with command strips, etc. I plug other things in to the strip, my laptop when I use it in the bedroom, fan, etc.
It really has helped me, I don’t misplace the chargers anymore.
Beth says
My son has a kindle fire…2 yrs old?..the old DS charger works with it as well as that phone that was the first smart phone…can’t remember the name…okay but that charger works too
Susan says
We do the same as Colleen. Take a power strip and plug it in near your bed, and keep the cords to your devices plugged in there. I also use some of those Command Strip thingies that hold the other end of the cord within easy reach. Plug in the iPhone, Kindle, and iPad each night and they’re always ready.
My tween daughter has a similar setup in her room for her iPhone and Kindle.
We are away from home for 10-14 hours every weekday, and we also travel frequently. The devices go with us, so we keep another charger to each device in our backpacks. They take up very little space — just bundle them with a clip and keep them in a little pocket in the backpack.
Lastly, I keep one iPhone and one Micro USB charger in the car, which my daughter and I share.
As long as the cords stay in their respective homes, they never get lost.
