I enjoyed hanging out today, talking about decluttering kitchens! (Go here if you can’t see the embedded video.)
Strangely, quite a few people lost the feed mid-hangout, but I think it still recorded all of it.
These posts have most of the information covered in the hangout:
Here’s a Kitchen Shelf Organizer like we talked about in the hangout.

Hey Noni!!
Lately I’ve done the unrecommended, because it works for my brain.
So it’s a blend of a few methods.
I had made a decent amount of progress in the “project” room. But once again I was getting stressed and overwhelmed at not keeping up with mail, papers, bills, etc.
Since my file cabinet & desk are in the project room, and it was feeling a lot less cluttered, I decided to dust around my desk, pull several procrasta projects to the visible living room, where we are successfully making progress on excess & it also had been recently decluttered a good amount.
So my desk was clean & clear on the surface, even though I stuff shifted, I did donate several things, confirmed that many projects we DID want to still complete, and then being around the desk wasn’t helping them get done .
I brought ALL my mail & paper stacks to the project room, and started with the easy stuff. My reciepts from my purse, which I DIDN’T pull out all at once, then eventually, the loose papers from my purse.
I did set up a sorting system I had heard about, because there’s a MASSIVE amount of paper to deal with.
FASTER – File, which I do immediately. Action, which I do as far as I can, and have a short list for longer items, and will pause the process if it gets too urgent or overwhelming. Sentimental, which I’ve consistently struggled with because of the regular office stuff, and am hiring a creative helper to help us with cute projects & other kids or fun stuff around the house.
Trash. Evaluate further, hoping a very few amount of paper will go here. And Refer out to someone else.
I set up small containers to hold, around my desk & have been slowly working through it.
This evening, I turned on this hangout. I really related doing the dishes to opening the mail & filing the few things I like to keep.
I got to a point pretty quickly where the file drawer was clearly getting full.
So I started with ‘A’ and got to about ‘C’ before I needed to stop.
Have about an inch high of paper trash now 🙌 and will be able to continue with the ‘daily’ mail opening, trash & filing, for a little while before I need to keep going on the other old file decluttering.
This really is such a big deal for me. I like to keep paper info on some topics, because I remember that I have a lot of it & will go look for it, or feel free to trash when it’s reached it’s usefulness.
It’s taken a long time to understand how to get systems to WORK for my brain & increasingly busy life, so far.
I definitely relate to the appreciation of the listener who said, “Thanks for the repetition”!
