Menu Plan – and a Pesky Little Detail Called Completion

It’s over a week into my 31 Days of Details, and honestly . . . today feels like a take-a-nap-while-it’s-raining kind of day.

But I’ve promised to notice AND act upon details every day this month.

Since it’s time to plan my menu anyway, which means thinking about groceries, I thought I’d take care of a pesky little detail that’s been bugging me.

I heard about Zaycon Foods around a year ago.  They have “events” where you can order large amounts of meats which get delivered at a specific time and place, and you go pick it up.  When I heard about this, it was being done in another area of the country, and I thought . . . “If that ever comes to Texas, I’m totally doing it!”

Then, recently, I heard that they were coming to Texas. I was excited, but the meat that was coming was bacon.  30 pounds of bacon.

Which sounds totally fabulous.

But . . . it was the end of that month’s grocery budget, and I couldn’t justify borrowing 90 dollars from another budget to buy bacon.  And hubby was concerned that we would start eating bacon with every single meal and gain like . . . . a hundred pounds.

Which we would.

So, I thought . . . “If the CHICKEN deal ever comes to Texas, I’m totally doing it!”

And then I got the email about the chicken coming to Texas. It’s a forty pound box for 1.49 per pound.  Woo-hoo!  I can totally justify that!  Great price, and we’ll definitely eat it up!

But then, I had to make decisions.  Do I pick it up closer to my house at an inconvenient time, or farther away at a slightly more convenient time . . . . that means I have to commit to being somewhere I might not want to be in three weeks?

And all these decisions meant . . . I still hadn’t ordered, and the deadline is this Wednesday for my area.  I may have, in the past, missed out on great and fabulous opportunities because of my inability to make a decision.

Maybe.

It’s one thing to get excited, do the cost analysis, make plans for how you’ll deal with all that chicken, pat yourself on the back for buying a freezer, etc.

It’s a whole ‘nuther thing to walk out to the garage, get your purse and credit card, and place the order.

I am so sorry to say that it seems Zaycon has gone out of business. I say “seems” because the information I’ve seen says they’ve “suspended” operations and I don’t fully understand what is happening. I’m so so sad about this since this will change how our family keeps our freezer stocked with meat. We’ve been ordering almost all of our chicken, bacon, and shrimp for them for more than five years. If you had ordered recently, I recommend that you call your credit card company or bank (for debit cards) to see what can be done. I’ve heard many people have had success doing this.

But now, as my detail of the day, it’s done.

And here’s my menu plan, which won’t include the chicken because I’ll pick it up in a few weeks:

Monday – Skillet Lasagna

Tuesday – Taco Soup

Wednesday – Round Steak in the Crockpot

Thursday – Chicken Stir Fry

Friday – Out to Eat

Saturday – Homemade pizza

And yes, the link here and up there for Zaycon foods is my affiliate link. It doesn’t cost anything to sign up so you’ll get the emails when/if they come to your area.  If you create an account after clicking on my link, and then someday make an order, I get 1.00 off of my next order.  Which doesn’t matter this time since I already paid.  You can send your own referral link to your friends.

I’ll be linking this up to Orgjunkie.com.

ok I know this is a pretty “beside the point” question, but do you really keep your purse in the garage? lol.

I leave it in the car, with the garage locked. It eliminates the CONSTANT searching-for-the-purse that otherwise goes on every time I need to leave the house.

Now, I only have to worry about the constant searching-for-the-keys.

I leave mine in the car too….but I leave my keys in there too….My theory is that maybe if someone breaks in they’ll check the car and just take it and the purse without coming in the house!

I just found your blog today (through a recipe at Eat at Home). I just want to say this: I LOVE IT.
For a time, I would spend MY weekend cleaning while MH and Teen were out at deer camp or car races, etc. THEN, they wouldn’t notice and would have it messed up in 0.16 minutes, and I became resentful about cleaning. So I kind of quit. I didn’t allow anything to become disgusting, but I didn’t allow myself to be the maid either.
Now MH and I share it more (and Teen has responsibilities too). I love your philosophy about doing easy stuff first.

This is exactly what I do!! I have to remind myself that thinking about doing a thing and actually doing a thing are not the same. I am driving from Arkansas to Georgia next week with my two children instead of flying for $300 because I didn’t ACT on the great sale fare I found. Now it would cost about $900 to fly, so we will drive.
