Fluffy Carpet Makes Me Happy

Fluffy Carpet Makes Me Happy at ASlobComesClean.com

Have I mentioned that I’m feeling overwhelmed lately?  I going through a time of, “Okay, Lord . . . what exactly do you want me to be doing, because I obviously can’t handle what I am doing?” prayers.

When one crazy week turns into four crazy weeks in a row, it’s probably time to make some changes.

Anyway, I’m trying to barely hang on by running the dishwasher every night and emptying it every morning.  That, plus hitting a few things on the daily checklist, is about it.

Add in the fact that our home groups were canceled two Sunday nights in a row (much to my relief) and I find that I have no reason to do the big stuff, like vacuum.

So, when last Sunday afternoon came and I started picking up with purpose, getting ready for our doorbell to ring, I felt very bleh.  Bleh as in, what’s-the-point-I’ve-let-it-get-too-bad.

Until I vacuumed.  And the wood floors looked shinier . . . and my fluffy rug looked fluffier.

And suddenly, the entire un-dusted, don’t-open-that-door house felt a whole lot better.

So I guess vacuuming is a detail.  A pretty important one.

(Check out the other posts in my 31 Days of Details series.)

I so know what you mean about being overwhelmed. I need the Lord to answer that prayer for me because honestly I don’t know what I could drop, but I just can’t get everything done! It is frustrating when you try your hardest and still stay behind. Now I have to hurry and get my house as clean as possible, because my super clean in-laws are going to be there all weekend with my husband and kids and I won’t even be there to make sure my bedroom door stays shut!!! That is terrifying!

My favorite cleaning quote of all time(yes, it really is), “Do the easy stuff first.” A very wise person said that. In my house, that is usually the floors. Since they cover such a large area, it automatically makes the room feel cleaner, and the dirty spots even dirtier. I also like, “Anything is better than Nothing.” But I don’t remember who said that one. 😉

What you are doing is so inspirational to me. I have a hard time keeping up with the kids, husband, church callings, let alone house work. You make me feel like, I’m not the only with the struggles of house cleaning and that helps me put things into perspective. Thanks for your help!

I hate vacuuming but every time I do it, the whole house feels a million times cleaner. With little ones crawling all over the place, I feel like a better mom when I vacuum too. It is such a simple thing with such a big impact. 🙂

Clean floors can make a world of difference in any room no matter what else is messed up. I enjoy vacuuming, but I usually have to muster up the motivation to do it.

I think that prayer is being said by more and more folks lately. I know I have been repeating it for weeks myself.

Your post was spot-on with what is going on my life, as usual. Thank you!

I’m sorry to hear you’re overwhelmed. The rug looks great! Everybody fed? Everybody clothed? You are doing fine.
