I am so excited to officially announce that my next book, Decluttering at the Speed of Life, will be released on February 27th, 2018!
I really like this book, y’all. I know that’s weird for someone to say about a book she wrote, but it’s true. This has been a hard year, and writing this book with crazy deadlines made it harder. The time between my mostly-final edits and my really-final edits was the craziest, so my overwhelmed brain had somehow blocked out all memory of what I’d written! So when I read it, I started with one eye shut, petrified I wasn’t going to like it. But y’all, I love it. It’s exactly what I wanted this book to be.
It’s funny. I know. Some Lots of people think you shouldn’t say your own book is funny, but I’ve always been a laugh-at-my-own-jokes type. I marked little happy faces next to each line that made me laugh out loud. There were plenty of happy faces, and I wasn’t even counting inner-chuckles.
It’s thorough. My last book covered decluttering because decluttering is such an integral part of managing a home (without losing a mind). So what’s there to say that I didn’t say in How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind? Lots. About 60,000 words. In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, I’m putting my decluttering strategies into thorough, step-by-step instructions to help you work through your clutter, no matter how overwhelmed you feel. And I talk through those steps in specific rooms of your home, busting through the excuses I know you have because I have them, too.
It covers things I’ve never covered on the blog. I’ve avoided subjects like moving, helping older relatives, etc. I stopped avoiding those things in this book.
I’m super proud that the book truly delivers on the promise of its title. The marketing spiel is, “Whether you have five minutes, five hours, or five days to spend decluttering, you can make real progress in your home.”
If y’all have been around here a while, you know that my not-what-the-pros-do strategies are all based on making progress. Progress in the face of distractions. Progress I can see. Progress that makes me feel like my effort was worth my time. Progress that inspires me to keep working. Progress that doesn’t leave any loose ends or bigger messes to deal with later.
The whole book, every chapter and every strategy, helps you make real progress in whatever amount of time you have available. Yay for that!
UPDATE: My books are now BOTH available! How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind and Decluttering at the Speed of Life.
But why pre-order?
You get the book as soon as it is released on February 27th of next year! You can go ahead and order now, and it will arrive in your mailbox or on your e-reader (or audiobook app). Some people who pre-ordered my last book even got it early!
Some retailers guarantee that if a lower pre-order price happens before the book is released, you’ll get that lower price, so there’s nothing to lose. I pre-ordered my own book last time, and the day after release, I got a refund of a few dollars because of that guarantee. (Check the specific retailer’s policy to see if they do this!)
It helps me so so much when you pre-order. The more pre-orders there are for a book, the more copies bookstores order, even above and beyond the pre-orders. It’s how they gauge the potential success of a book before it’s released.
I’ve got an amazing pre-order bonus coming out on December 20th! I’m working this week on making videos for a mini-course called The Five Day Clutter Shakedown. It will cost $30 when it’s released on its own in the future, but if you pre-order Decluttering at the Speed of Life, you’ll get it as a bonus! A free bonus with the pre-order of a $16.99 book you want anyway!!
Let me tell you that when you wake up on December 26th, you’ll be in the mood to declutter. It happens. Every single year. These are the things I know as one of the Internet’s “leading decluttering experts.” You’ll have the mini-course ready to get you going on making the best of that Decluttering Energy!
Other perks of pre-ordering:
- Access to a private, four-week book club in March. We’ll do these through a private (though not secret, as I learned last time is way too much hassle) Facebook group where I’ll go live once each week in March, discussing sections of the book and answering your questions.
- You personally make me so so happy.
One last thing, if you’d consider. So many of you have told me that you own my last book in digital, paperback and audio forms. Like, every form available.
If you think you’d like this book in paperback, it would be awesome if your pre-order was for a paperback copy. (Though all formats will count for the bonuses!)
You can do this with a paperback:
See that? That’s her paper copy with an (estimated) ba-jillion notes! I loved meeting Sandra of Plum Prairie Ranch!
Not that I want you to go over your Clutter Threshold on my account. But if you were already probably going to get a paperback version eventually, I’d love it if that was your pre-order.
And feel free to read it and then stick it in your Donate Box so someone browsing your favorite thrift store can pick it up, too! (Thrift-store-browsers are our kindred spirits, y’know.)
How do you get the digital pre-order bonuses? Order at your favorite retailer (some links are below), and then click to fill out this form here.

So exciting!!! So will there be an audio version???? Read by you???
I honestly don’t know how you’ve managed to write a book this year with all that has happened, but when God has a plan for you, you don’t argue. Lol. Hopefully I can pre-order a digital copy (I’m in England). I am very much looking forward to reading this book and getting an audio copy too. God Bless.
It’s already $14.95 on preorder at Amazon and Walmart today’s date 12-3-17.
Woohoo! I can’t wait!
How do you know if we’ve pre-ordered (to get the bonuses?
Fill out the form that is linked above.
Thanks, Dana, if I had a brain, I could rule the planet!
How do you find your audible order #?
Hmmm. Not sure. If you have a confirmation can you forward it to me at [email protected]?
Enjoyed How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind. I would love to pre-order this new book, but was wondering why the table of contents isn’t view-able? Is it possible to see that before ordering? Thanks so much!
I’m sure that will come soon!
