I loved these shoes. Loved them. Hubby gave them to me for Christmas a year and a half ago.
Somehow, he knew exactly what I wanted. (Maybe because I ordered them myself.)
I bought them before we spent Christmas at Disney World because I knew there might be capri days. Y’know. Days when it was too cool for shorts but too warm for long pants.
(I am so scared that capris might be going out of style. This girl who doesn’t look her best in shorts likes to feel a breeze on her ankles!)
I’m definitely not a fashionista, but I have an aversion to wearing socks and big chunky tennis shoes with capris. But I’m also 42 and shoes (especially shoes worn on days of guaranteed foot pain) must be sensible.
These were sensible and a little bit cute and were meant to be sockless.
Yay.
But sockless also means stink-guardless.
Oh my word.
For real.
I knew they weren’t at their freshest anymore, but about a month ago I ended up identifying a public smell as me and decided they needed to go.
And yet, I didn’t pitch them the minute I got home.
So, as happens, I was in a hurry one day. I needed capri-appropriate shoes. My toenails were in horrible shape so sandals weren’t an option.
I wore them, hoping I could get away with it just one more time. That the schtank wouldn’t get through this time.
I was wrong. And I was in a meeting. A situation where I couldn’t stand downwind or walk away.
So that was it. I kept them one wear (or, honestly, probably six wears) too long. I resolved to come home and throw them away immediately. (Stinky shoes shouldn’t be donated.)
And I almost did. I just couldn’t find my camera. But now they’re gone. Because remembering to pitch them and having an available camera finally coincided, even if I wasn’t wearing capris at the time.
And now for the Amazon affiliate links. Seriously, they’re great and super comfy shoes. Find them (not the same colors, but the same style) here on Amazon. And if you can remember to wear these doolollies, you’ll stay stink-free a lot longer.

I cannot see any other comments on my phone, so sorry if someone else already made the suggestion: The first answered question under the Amazon listing says you can put these through the washing machine.
Perhaps something to try on the next pair? 😉

I had washed them, but it didn’t get them completely stink free!

That’s exactly what I do!
I think you were the first to comment.

Great option for shoes that stay fairly stank-free even without the slip shoes: Muckboots make ballet flats. Seriously: super comfy, and made out of neoprene to minimize the stank. I’ve even worn them into the pool, then to the office the next day. LOVE them.

You can still donate stinky shoes! They get recycled! Maybe you even have a collection going on for just this purpose in your community. Our library and village hall both are collecting right now. 🙂

I was going to mention this too!

Odor eaters, BEFORE you wear them the first time. They really do work.
We don’t wait till our clothes stink before washing them, so maybe washing the shoes before they start to stink would work better?

Hiya Dana!
I am 20 years older than you with a comfy shoe imperative. I absolutely cannot wear shoes without socks, so I guess that cuts down on shoe stank. But I had a major decluttering moment about 6 weeks ago.
I am a woman of broader proportions, and my knees simply don’t think it’s appropriate for me to dance in 4″ heels anymore. So… broader and flatter shoes started populating my shoe collection.
I had about a dozen pair of absolutely gorgeous peeptoes, wedges and heels that my feet would never comfortably wear again. There were some sandals in there that also didn’t fit as well as expected as the days of wearing went on. What to do with all those shoes? I am not organized enough to accumulate articles for a yard sale… And I was depressed about SO MUCH CLUTTER that I needed a place to start.
Turns out, I packed each pair of shoes in a plastic grocery bag. I filled up a nice sized box with the shoes and donated it to Bearly Used in Keller TX. (Yes, we’re practically neighbors!) I browse in there from time to time, and noticed that nothing that I had donated was there. Size 10 gently used shoes apparently are very much needed and appreciated.
I had donated several other boxes of stuff during that declutter flutter, and now I have room on my shoe rack, and have shoes that I actually wear. And felt so much better.
BTW, I toss shoes like those Skechers into the wash and just air dry them. They come out fairly fabulous. I had a favorite pair of Bear Pawz that I would resurrect this way until the soles were so worn out that there were no treads.

Have you tried crocs? They make some really cute and comfy ballet flats, available on Amazon, that are super comfy and (knock on wood) don’t seem to develop stink. I wipe mine out with vinegar and water occasionally so that probably helps but anyways. Capris + crocs ballet flats = my summer uniform!

I’m a fan of the Crocs ballet flat and Capri combo too. I also have hyperhydrosis (super sweaty feet). I deal with sock-free funk by lining my Crocs with extra long panty liners that I replace with each wearing. They’re long enough that they cover most of my size 10’s, but just shy enough of my heel that they don’t bunch and can’t be seen through the sling back. When the Crocs get a bit grungy I toss them in the washer with a towel load and air dry. I’ve also been know to hit them with a magic erasure to remove scuffs. Hth.

Oh one more tip…spray deodorant/anti perspirant is not just for pits. Spray between toes and you’re good to go lol.

Great ideas!!!

I took a few weeks to decide but finally ordered the shoes through your affiliate link, and I love them! I never would have picked them out by myself so thanks for the recommendation!

I’m so glad!
