Hi Dana/Nony! (I’m new around here. Which should I call you?)
I think the reason you get a lot of questions about moving is because the process of getting ready for a move is probably causes a lot of people to look for decluttering and cleaning help and then they find you. That’s how I got here. My husband and I devoured your book (on audio) yesterday. In our own journey of deslobbing we had already accomplished the clean dishes and counters every day. I had started accomplishing a short list of daily and weekly tasks which has me decluttering the bathrooms every day (that’s like a week old BTW as is sweeping the WHOLE house daily because we have dogs.)
So I’m just starting to have a routine that works to get the place cleaner, but now we need to be decluttering for a move to at the same time. And oh-by-the-way since we’re selling the house we’re working with contractors to fix all the broken bits we conveniently ignored for years and taking care of “leaving the state” stuff like getting cars fixed by mechanics who we know as opposed to some Devil we don’t know in our destination city. AND my husband is gone every other week working in the city to which we’re moving.
I have no idea how to do everything – even imperfectly. We don’t have a firm deadline except that it is very hard to sell a house over the holidays so we’d like to be out of here in time do have sold by then.
Thank you for being there.

I’m not an experienced mover, by any means. We are currently in the process of clearing/packing up large portions of our house to prepare for a major renovation. We are packing up – in bins- things that we can live without for three months, to be placed in a storage unit. We are getting rid of a few obvious things, but mostly, we’re trying to quickly remove stuff from the house to alleviate the immediate problem. I wanted to get more decluttering done ahead of time, but I think it depends on how long you have to prepare. In principle, I definitely agree that more decluttering beforehand is ideal. The more, the better. I don’t know what page to set after that for dinner. Maybe a bin per week…

Correction: I don’t know what pace to set after that for decluttering. Maybe a bin per week…

I’m a new listener and started at the beginning of your podcasts. I just listened to this and know from the blog and YouTube that you’ve recently moved. I’m wondering if you would change any of the advice you’ve given in this episode. Also, you did follow your own suggestion on the predetermined amount of moving boxes. Fancy that!
Love listening and the inspiration you bring to my home.
