I was doing the right thing. Even though I’d messed up and NOT started the dishwasher the night before, I was starting it that morning.
Yay for getting back on track.
And the kitchen really looked nice. Clean counters. Mostly clean sink.
Except for that one measly cookie sheet that wouldn’t fit into the dishwasher for this load. I mean, knowing what I know about the comparative neatness of the kitchen, it’s like it wasn’t even sitting there in the sink.
Except that it was.
And so was my handy-dandy soap-in-the-handle dish wand.
I shook my head to clear the Slob Vision Fog, set the timer on my phone (like any good Slob Blogger would) and washed that blankety-blank cookie sheet. I even dried it.
And get this, I PUT IT AWAY!!!!!
All in less than a minute and five seconds!!!
I even shut the drawer.
And, obviously, took pictures.
Go me.
Technically, the “clean kitchen” came from a little more time spent before this final task. But I wasn’t going to do the final task. So it wouldn’t have been a clean kitchen. But it was, in only 1 minute and 3.58 seconds. I’m calling that a win.

i love your timed tasks… the reality of it really gives me hope that i can get my kitchen cleaned today even with a clingy baby and a wild toddler running crazy after too many rainy days… my sink is piled high with 5 pots and i might get the 5 minute break i need to get it cleaned up!

You and your blog are my absolute favorite right now! It’s like you’re inside my head whispering in my ear, except not in a creepy stalker-y way. I’m off to clean my own pesky cookie sheet right NOW!!

Your timing idea revolutionized my bathrooms. Wiped down every day it is a super short job! And timing it reminds me that it really IS short.

Now I wish I washed those two pots last night!

For real . . .
Stella says
No, I didn’t even manage to wash the extra frypan this morning, I had to wash it before I could cook dinner. One day it might make sense.
Stella says
hang on…. YOU CLOSED THE DRAWER!! How did I miss that yesterday. Go YOU!

I AGREE!!! That’s a huge win!!! I hate it when I don’t finish…. at the moment itdoesn’t seem like a big deal because I can do them with them next batch of a few things left behind… and isn'[t that more efficient anyway . BUT IT’S NOT FINISHED… yeah for finishing!!!! I totally get it.

My new favorite thing are Parchment paper liners. I started using Parchment paper a while back after using it to bake Christmas cookies and had “a ha-ha moment “, that I could use it when baking anything on a cookie sheet and it has made my life so much easier, I HATE scrubbing cookie sheets the most, they are so big and awkward. Then a month or so ago I saw they have pre-cut Parchment paper liners! It is definitely worth the few dollars to me to save the scrubbing, now I always do a quick wipe down of the cookie sheet and put it right away…before it would sit on my counter for days (or more honestly, weeks, lol) before I would finally get around to scrubbing.

Great idea!

I use super heavy duty aluminum foil on my cookie sheets and normally it keep the message on them so I can just throw it away and wipe it down done 🙂

I’ve decided I need some of the extra wide so I can do that when I cook bacon in the oven. We use two sheets which makes the mess less, but some of the grease gets between the sheets of foil.

Nice! I like when I conquer myself, too. Do you know what I like to do? I like to read my emails, watch your videos or read your articles, or get on youtube for the many things I love. But time sure flies when I’m having fun! So I discipline myself by doing chores in between articles/videos. I call the computer time my rewards and they are guilt free since the house will be cleaner and neater by the time the guys come home, or, since I’m a late owl, when they wake up! Win/Win/Win.

I need ideas on how to keep the stove top grates clean. I’m so sick of scrubbing them without getting them all the way clean. Of course, ideally, they should be wiped after the spills. But I have a large family and each member cooks. They just seem to Cook and Run and then the stove looks nasty. Maybe you’ve found a solution? If so, please SHARE!
