Uncle Clint’s Desk – Accepting Hand Me Down Furniture (Without Cluttering Up My House!)

I am so excited to get a “new” desk! It’s not new at all, and it isn’t even new to me!

It was in my room as a child.

I do love furniture that’s free and nice. But I don’t like not being able to walk through my house. So before I said I wanted it, I took a moment to figure out which furniture piece I’d have to replace to have a spot for it. I realized pretty quickly that I’d MUCH prefer to have this desk over a plain and boring table that I’m currently using for the computer in our gameroom. So that’s what I will replace. (After Christmas. For now, the delivered-last-night desk will be in the garage.)

Here’s a recent text conversation I had with my mother:

(If you’re an email sub, be sure to click on “Show Images” to be able to see the images of the texts and know how this all went down.)

And please forgive text/autocorrect mistakes.

I’m thankful for an understanding mom who cracks me up even though she’s a terrible texter. (This is an example of some of her BEST texting ever. Go mom!) Here’s her blog.

Great job thinking of what the desk would replace if brought in. We did that with new to us couches last fall. The old ones were sold to some lucky family within a day of having the new ones! Will your old desk be picked up by charity?

Normally, yes. But I’m going to try it out as a worktable in the playroom! (If that ends up being a clutter-catcher, it will get donated!)

I hope it works. Flat surfaces can go either way sometimes!!

I’m getting a new desk too, but I decided the old desk had to be gone before the new old got here. I have a lady picking it up Friday (since I sold it via my town’s Facebook Buy/Sell/Trade group). Yahoo!

I recently moved from a 1500 square foot home to a 1000 square foot home. We had to decide which furniture to keep. We turned a wine bar into a desk, an antique desk into a table, and a TV stand into a dresser

Your mom is a trip! Loved that text exchange. I took a look at her blog too and enjoyed it. The apple clearly didn’t fall far from the tree! 🙂
