Invisible Clutter

Invisible Clutter - A Slob Comes Clean

I have Slob Vision.

I do a lot to combat it, but I still am amazed at the things I suddenly see when I’m doing a deeper clean than usual.

Like this coffee-can art:

Coffee Can Art

I go back and forth between keeping coffee cans and pitching them, but I honestly didn’t realize they were stacked up in this corner of the kitchen.

Salvaged Water For Plants

Salvaged water for plants.

Try as I might to reduce our disposable water-bottle usage, we’re always finding half-full bottles. They go next to Daddy’s plant, since he’s the one who waters it and he likes to use the bits of water left.

But suddenly we find that we have LOTS of partially-full water bottles waiting to be salvaged.

Honestly, I just stuck them in a cabinet for the party and now they’re back in their clutter-ey spot.

Trash can lids.

Cleaning the Trash Can Lid

I like the swing-ey lid so we don’t have to look at trash, but . . . . ewwwww.

Those things get nasty.

I know. This isn’t clutter, it’s just gross.  But it’s another thing that was invisible to me before Party Mode set in.

What clutter have you seen lately that was once invisible?

Mine is more in the “gross” category than the clutter one. Just before the weekend something in my kitchen sprung a leak. It turned out to be the water line to the fridge, but I didn’t know that and called the plumber. He moved my fridge. YUCK just yuck. there was all manner of nastyness under there gluing dust and dirt to the floor. I couldn’t get it up. Now if this were the only thing messy about my home it would have been bad enough but my “slob vision” is so strong the other messes and clutter only came clear after I realized how he must see my house. I really need to find something to to do to get my house in order…it was just too embarrassing.

If only we all had the money to hire trusty weekly houscleaners and yearly organizers accountnts, poop scoopers, gardeners, around the house repair person, etc.?

Neat stacks of books on flat surfaces …EV.ER.Y.WHERE. I sit.
Because that is how I read! My husbands says…”Really, you’re reading all those books?”
    Uh yeah! (says me)
    I don’t really see them.
    I have other invisable clutter…
Are clean dishes in the dish drainer on the counter…considered clutter?
    …I think so. :/

Tip I learnt a few years ago to help you ‘see your clutter’ take some photos of your room with your phone and look at those photos…for some reason when you see images of your space ‘clutter, mess, untidyness’ what ever you want to call it jumps out at you!

My DH is the slob in our house, though he claims different, but a trail of mass distruction and carnage follow him through the house, piles of clothes, piles of papers, piles of dishes, piles of….I tend to tidy up as I go, and he tends to rely on ‘magic fairies’ to come after him…..

Once my house is neat and tidy I feel better, I feel lighter, more energised, when it is messy or dirty I feel drained and defeated.

Love your blog, I visit every day to catch up and know that I am not alone in my fight against the dreaded messy home 🙂

Well, right now there’s a balloon in the fireplace from my grandson’s birthday party on March 17th. It hasn’t been in the fireplace the whole time but it’s been there at least for a couple of days.

I had a box of planner stuff on the floor next to my desk for a couple of weeks but I put that away a couple of days ago.

I hate that kind of stuff. It absolutely does become invisible.

Things get left on the stairs that need to go up yet live on the stairs for far to long. It’s an on going issue. We do well for a while then it all goes south.

For the leftover water – what if you get a decorative water can to sit next to the plant then everyone can dump their water and throw the bottle in the recycle bin?

LOVE the water idea! Going to use the perfect water pitcher (that never gets used) right now!

Some decor things I bought a month ago but weren’t sure where to put them. So I set them on the hutch until I found a spot and they’re still there, lol!

As for the water, couldn’t you consolidate as much water as you could into one or two bottles, and then have a couple of full bottles rather than several 1/4 full? But I’d probably buy something cute to store the water in! 😉

I just have to comment on the water thing. I applaud hubby’s no waste approach but the plant would really prefer the trace minerals strait out of the tap.

I would combine all of the water into one container. Or maybe stop buying plastic water bottles and everyone has a reusable water bottle instead. Then your husband can water the plant from the tap.

I know it sounds really trashy, but I can go days without noticing half empty beer cans sitting around the house. I used to think my husband drank too many beers, but it turns out he only opens them, and misplaces them around the house, then right before one of my Mommy friends drops her kids off for a playdate, I realize it’s looking like a frat house, and go around emptying and tossing beer cans. It’s not my only clutter issue, but it’s the one with the most potential for embarrassment.

I became so frustrated with the swingey tops I got rid of them. Yes my garbage is exposed but that motivates me to empty it WAY more often.
PS I had to type swingey 4 times because it kept autocorrecting to swinger. Lol

My kitchen counter…baskets of useless items that I put there to collect random items. Invisible after a few days. I’m currently in declutter mode before our adult kids come home for the weekend. 2 spare bedrooms are company ready. 👍 How does my brain not see the stuff?

I’m reading from beginning to end: so this problem could have already been solved but I saw the water bottles and it came to me. You could get a cute little watering can/pitcher for that table by the plant and then dump the water from the bottles in there. If this falls into the category of cutesy basket solutions than *zips lips, bows out* 😀

I thought I had tidied up before a contractor came to give us a quote about some work on our house. When he took some pics to show the changes he would make I noticed the pile of donation items spread on the counter. Hmmmm. Why did I not take them to a box?! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

And why are crayons in the kitchen? And why did I NOT see all of this?
