I guess I could just call this “Normal Friend” week, huh?
Really, though, the work that we got done when she was here for three hours last Friday was (at least) a week’s worth of work for me.
I’m so . . . incredibly . . . grateful.
Anyway, the final thing that we did before she left was to shoot a webisode. Probably not the greatest idea (vanity-wise) to do it AFTER doing major cleaning for 2 1/2 hours, but oh well.
We cleared off my dresser. My dresser that has been the subject of more than one decluttering post. I promise, I didn’t pile it up with stuff just to make this webisode.
That wouldn’t be necessary.
This took about 22 minutes. Which isn’t much. It went from piled as high as my shoulder to this:
22 measly minutes. Really. It’s amazing how much easier it is to see things for what they really are . . . when your rationalizations have to be said out loud to a real-live person.
Mostly, there was trash. Trash that started out as “really important things to look at later” like coupons, Christmas ads, school papers, etc.
Be sure to watch the webisode, as my totally-opposite-of-me friend gives some good organizing tips in it.
While I make faces in the background.
Because I’m so mature.
And the drawers that don’t quite shut . . . that’s another post for another day.
I’m linking this up to Orgjunkie.com for her 52 Weeks of Organizing.

Oh, and here’s the reminder that several of you asked for (that I was going to give anyway!) to go vote for A Slob Comes Clean in the 25 Top Home Management Blogs list. Please? Pretty please? Just think, if I win . . . the world will see that slobs don’t “just like living that way . . . I guess.” You can vote once a day. (And I’ll be reminding you once a day!)
You’re as adorable on video as you are in writing! The funny thing is that I think I could act as this friend for someone else – I have no problem cleaning/decluttering other people’s stuff and seeing it for what it is. It’s just my OWN crap that I have trouble seeing as, well, crap! How blessed you are to have a friend to help you out with it, not just IRL but on camera, too!
Your “normal” friend reminds me of myself. I go to family/friends houses and help them clean and declutter too. Decluttering and cleaning are actually fun to me…Weird I know…I have been told many times 🙂
Anyway, I have another tip for you that I use myself concerning kids artwork/schoolwork. I started taking photos of the kids with their projects or pictures and then we can trash the actual thing. This way we can still see it but it does not take up space and cause clutter issues in our home. I have my photos on my computer as a screen saver and it is fun to see the kids with their projects come up. Now, I do have a box with some of the extra special things too, each child has one that will go off with them one day! Keep up the good work!
Love this idea!
Thanks for the reminder to vote. And today I discovered that I could vote twice – once at work and once at home – woo hoo!!!
Isn’t it amazing how the dresser is such a magnet for stuff? The kitchen table is my biggest curse! 🙂
Thank you for reminding me of how easy it is to make a big change.
Another product I find useful is hanging a shoe bag over the back of my door (with clear pockets) to hold all of the little things that land on my dresser/table/counter. The clear pockets help me see what is in them and that way little miscellaneous items don’t float around. (Great as a junk drawer, too!)
My favorite is here – it is cute and works great!

A couple of years ago I read through your blog backwards to the point of getting caught up and then didn’t keep up with reading it daily. I am now re-reading through from the beginning. I watched this webisode when I went through the first time and I just now watched it again. I didn’t notice the 3:15 minute mark before. LOL You crack me up!
I’m going to clean off my dresser in my master bedroom right now! It’s pretty much the same as your “before” and I’m hoping my “after” looks like yours 20 minutes from now. 🙂
