When I was in High School/College/Thailand, the worst possible thing that could happen was to not have anywhere to go on a Friday or Saturday night. Free time was for having fun and I loved to be on the go.
So sometimes I’m surprised that I’m now a total homebody.
After two weeks of going and blowing every-single-day-all-over-the-place, I’m loving being home today.
I probably could have filled my time with just the regular cleaning tasks I’ve been ignoring this week, but some external motivation has come up.
My sister-in-law is moving soon.
And they’re having a garage sale.
And they want us to help them with it.
If I’m going to do a garage sale, I might as well make a little chump change while I’m at it.
I’m not planning to tear through the house, but I’d like to collect a little here and there for the next week and a half.
Today, I decided to take another look at our videos. Yes, videos. Not DVDs. (We’re really into history and want our kids to experience the joys of VHS.)
We keep them in a cuter-when-the-drawers-can-actually-close TV stand, seen at the top of the post. We have tons. When my oldest was a toddler and I was a garage-sale-a-holic, I loaded up on them for one or two quarters each.
As we stepped into this century, we got a DVR, and there just wasn’t much of a need for the videos. Still, I purchased movie after movie with the justification that we could BUY them for a quarter instead of renting, and just get rid of them if we wanted to.
Of course, the getting rid of didn’t happen often. And they were just taking up space. (A concept that has only recently made sense to me.)
About a year ago, I purged a few, but decided to keep way too many.
I’m finally ready to accept that we’re done with Barney and Blue.
I didn’t get rid of them all, but now the two top drawers are empty and the bottom drawers have extra room left in them.
Not a life-changing project since I rarely even open these drawers, but it feels good to know that we’ll be hauling away a box full of useless-to-us stuff.
Note: I’m editing to add that I do now see, through the pictures, just how incredibly dusty that piece of furniture is. But y’know, dusting is Friday’s job.
I’ll be linking this up over at Orgjunkie.com for her 52 Weeks of Organization.

Wish I could come to your garage sale – we are in the thick of Barney and Blue.
And we totally still have a VHS player attached and ready to roll for our vintage tapes.
As an aside, I always say 'tape' a show instead of 'record' a show and it drives my husband crazy…

lol, I do the same thing mama laundry said. I still say, Rewind the tape and tape a show. Remember how you would rent a VHS and it's say "Be kind.Rewind"? Funny.
I went through one cupboard today and threw out some stuff. Not a HUGE feat and I didn't even blog about it. I should have though. Even little milestones matter.

Oh how I love my vhs! I stocked up on ebay when dd7 was small. My thought process was that Barney can't be around much longer. Its been 20 years so Ill get what I can, while I can. Lo and behold, Barney is still here. And I have no less than 40 tapes. Yes, 40. Plus all the classic(not old) Disney movies and quite a few random others.
You see, dd7 has a habit of becoming interested in whatever cannot be found. Boohbah, Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Oswald, Curious Buddies and the old Angelina Ballerina(has since been remade). Well, this sends me to ebay to find videos and a stuffed animal or two. Since I'm ordering anyway, I may as well get the big lot of stuff to save shipping. This way she has enough STUFF and don't have to order again. Therefore I'm saving money by spending it.
Hmmm… Made sense at the time.

We are (almost) VHS free. We no longer have a VHS player, so not sure why I have any. Hmmm.
