No Magic Formulas

Do you ever wish you would just learn your lesson and never have to be taught it again?

Tonight, as I de-disaster-ized my home before our home group arrived, I was surprised that I was surprised at how bad it had gotten.

What did I expect when I had done exactly nothing to it in three days?

I was thankful that it was recoverable, due to the major decluttering of the past months. I was thankful for my sweet family who was more than willing to help their poor, sick, voiceless mother/wife.

No big revelations to share with this post, other than that I was AGAIN reminded that no matter what happens, no matter how bad I feel or how crazy the schedule, if I don’t at least do the dishes, I’ll feel worse.

I am also on the constant quest to declutter and turn my home into a place of order and beauty. It sooo doesn't come naturally to me. But like you, I am learning. And as I continue to tackle one small area at a time, it really is getting better, day by day and year by year. Best of luck on your decluttering journey 🙂 I'm gonna go read some more of your posts now!

Don't get discouraged. You're well on your way. Every homeowner has something they have to do before company comes over. At my best, I still had to sweep, touch up the bathroom & windex the coffee table. And every home is 3 days away from disaster. I'm bad to compare myself to other people in this area and it only discourages me. Seeing another person's house at it's best is not a fair comparison.

I just love your blog and your honesty. I can really relate to you. I feel so overwhelmed sometimes and frustrated with myself. There are times when I want to just pack it all up in black garbage bags and get rid of it all in the dumpster. Then I just get stuck. What do I think will happen if it all just disappeared? I seem to think it's a sin to throw away STUFF… I'm okay with papers but toys and plain old stuff I have a very hard time with. Your blog is a place I can go and be myself… to have another person that I know understands how hard it is and offers HOPE. Thank you. Thanks for your comment on my blog too.

Have you started planning how you will handle everything during the summer when the kids are out of school and life isn't as scheduled as it is during the school year? I work full time but my teenage daughter will be home during the summer (except for several out of town trips) and I'm planning out what I want her to do each day. This is both to help me out and to give her some structure and keep her from wasting away on Facebook all summer!

For your own sanity in keeping the house in order, I think you might want to start planning for this and how you are going to maintain your various assigned tasks each day…

I'm definitely thinking a lot about this. I have some ideas that I think will help. I'm planning to write about them soon.

Aaaaawwwwwwhhhh! I was just gonna go to bed with the best excuse ever, 90 minutes of sleep last night. Actually, 0 minutes of sleep last night and a 90 minute nap this morning from a dear husband. I will set the timer for thirty… three minutes then hit the sack. I will be so happy in the morning. Can you feel my enthusiasm?
