On Saturday, hubby decided he wanted his walk-in closet to also be walk-innable. I’m pretty sure he was inspired by my own much-better closet and our much nicer master bedroom.
When I said I just might take a picture for the blog, he put a few things back, saying he wanted full credit. He’s so cute.
I know that the difference may not look huge in the pic, but it really is. He commented this morning that it is so nice to be able to walk into his closet again.
What’s the best part of this? That maybe, just maybe, this decluttering thing will keep going and will become a whole-family change.
I also did a quick less-than-thirty-minute-so-why-don’t-I-do-this-more-often project. I’ve been wanting to clean out my pantry for quite a while. I’m finally at the point where I can have people over more regularly, but having anyone help in the kitchen makes me so nervous that they will open a particularly scary cabinet door. I would never have asked someone to grab something from the pantry for me.
This also helped me put together a bag of items to donate. I like having them already separated so that they’re ready to go when one of the kids comes home with a note about a food drive. I also found several things that were expired. This is so frustrating.
I do have to point out that I would not have cleaned out the pantry today if it weren’t for my new non-negotiable task for this week. Making a list is so simple, but it really does help me see that I can fit one more project in on a day like today.

I don’t think your before is all that bad. My pantry is out in the open and im ashamed of allowing the top shelf to be covered in randomness.

I too have been reading this from the beginning and I just had to comment on this entry. I too have ADD and struggle with all the same issues you have described. I noticed that when you first started, the idea of the 5-minute pickup was a challenging concept for you. In this post, you referred to “a quick less-than-thirty-minute-so-why-don’t-I-do-this-more-often project”. What an incredible transformation in the way you look at things! And after only a few months! I actually have hope for the first time in my life that maybe I can change. Really change. I had pretty much accepted the fact that it just wasn’t possible.

Your pantry -before and after – looks great! My tiny kitchen (which has lots of floor space but limited cupboard space) only allows me to use the bottom, corner cupboard as a pantry. So I have to get down on the floor to access food…and put away food. You can probably imagine how everything eventually tumbles into a big pile.
