Enjoying My Office!!!

I finally finished painting the office last week, and I have been really happy with the color. The only problem was that I hadn’t put it back together yet. So although the walls were pretty, the room was in total chaos. The furniture was still shoved together in the middle of the room.
And as long as the furniture was still in chaos, I kept adding to the clutter by dumping things “wherever” since they didn’t have a defined space at the moment. This is my cycle that I so easily fall into. I had to stop the cycle before this room went back to its former designation of “junk room.”
So this morning, in about an hour and 10 minutes, I took it from this:
To this:

I still have quite a bit more work to do, but I’m so happy with this progress. Now, again, I can walk into this room and it makes me happy.

I have also noticed how much of a difference this room makes in my attitude about my house overall. With this room presentable, I feel so much better about things. Even though the living room, dining room, and kitchen are in the same “pretty-good” state that they were in before I worked on this room, I feel like my house is clean now. I think that part of it is that the house feels bigger when this room isn’t full of clutter. It’s like adding some serious square footage to my home when I clear the floor in here.

Hmmm.

Go check out more Tackle It Tuesday posts.

Yay!! I know this is an old post, but I’m catching up. Your office looks GREAT! It really is amazing how much more productive and creative you feel in a space that isn’t silently draining your energy with its chaos. Hope you’re STILL enjoying it!

Very nice! Even with the walls darker, it still looks brighter in the room. 🙂

Good for you! In my previous home, the smallest of the bedrooms was used as an office. I like the idea of being able to close the door when I left that space and no one else was subjected to my messiness. But, I took the time to think about that room and all that I did in there. In my mind I heard, “Yes, but….”. You see, I had so much stuff in there that I had to move too many things to get to the thing that I needed or wanted to work on…; Decluttering began! Things were moving along swimmingly until we had to move… My office space in our current home (and last, I hope) is not behind a door, so I do have to keep it moderately clutter free. Looking at things now, I am glad that I do not have that door to hide behind. I have been working on paring down the things that must be kept, but I am doing that with paper right now. I am using a “Neat Receipts” scanner and reducing everything to a pdf file and storing it on CD and an external hard drive. You would be amazed at how much more room there is in our family room/office without all of that paper! Amazing! I love reading your blog! You are doing the practical things and accomoplishing so much; showing your readers that it is do-able and, really, not hard to do. Thank you so much!

I love this comment, Dianne. And yes, the door can be a good thing and a bad thing . . .

I don’t know if you can edit these old blog posts, but asoftplace is now an adult-oriented site. I don’t think you want to link to it anymore…
