Okay, I feel like I’m having an out-of-body experience because you seem so much like me. And you even look like my one sister the looks like me. But here’s a non-silly question, if you can take me seriously. How come you can notice that you got up at 6:19 (not 6:15 or 6:20 like normals would say), but you can’t notice that thingamajig cluttering the floor? Cause I do the same thing! Honestly, do you have any idea why we notice what we notice, and overlook what we overlook?
I’ve been reading and am maybe a month beyond this point but came back to comment since I think this is the first time you put “cleaned kitchen” on your check list. I do notice that it didn’t appear right away. Cleaning my whole kitchen is too big of a task for me to put as a daily task right away, but I decided on:
Empty dishwasher
Empty kitchen sink (dishes into dishwasher or hand wash)
Clear of stove
I figure this would manageable and would take care of most of the dishes. I started with this yesterday. Well, today there wasn’t as much to do, so in addition, I polished the stove top and scrubbed the sink, as well as rounding up some stray dishes hiding behind things.
I guess this is how this works. Set a couple of manageable tasks and then the next step doesn’t seem so big.
I am slowly working my way toward getting up earlier so I can get more done. I’ve been setting my alarm for 8:30 am on mornings that I don’t have to be anywhere earlier than that (I homeschool). I used to sleep in until whenever, which was always past 9 and usually past 10. Except for some rare occasions when lack of sleep catches up to me (dh and I stay up late watching tv, which we need to move back a bit in the evening by getting up earlier in the morning), I’ve been consistent at getting up at 8:30 each morning. So I started setting my alarm for 8:25 am. I’ll do that for a few days, then try to move it back a bit more. Dh’s job is flexible, so he’s not always gone by the the time I wake up. If I start getting up earlier, it might help him, too, then we can move that TV time earlier too.
Hello! (what a creative way to start a comment…)
I’m going through your blog right now and we are really alike. Like this that I’m a total slob but I can’t stand nastiness either (just like you). At my home you will see piles everywhere but I can’t stand a filthy toilet or sink. I have a question for you that occurred some posts ago: How do you manage it to get up so early? I don’t have kids and I am an absolutely night owl. Do you have any tips? I really want to get up early but when it comes to the morning I feel that I simply can’t (I think you know this feeling all to well).

Haha! Good question!

I often set my alarm for odd times, like :19 or :16, not a 5 or 10.

Love it! I’ve never thought about it that way before. I always just skip it altogether if it is too big a task.

If you are a night owl- then do your daily lists at night and wake up to a clean kitchen instead.😀
