Two Second Task – Moving Things We Don’t Use

Two Second Task Moving Stuff We Don't Use at ASlobComesClean.com

In the summer of 2012, we got a new TV.

When we got it, it didn’t make any sense to hook up the VCR and DVD players that we never used, but that had been hooked up to our old TV.

We didn’t hook them up, but we also didn’t move them.

Right. They sat there.

Shoved to the side of a TV that didn’t have a flat top for stacking stuff on it. Shoved to the side of a TV stand that didn’t have room for all the things we do use. And definitely didn’t have room for things we don’t use.

In the fall of 2013 (yes, over a year later), I finally moved the unused-for-years-and-unplugged-for-more-than-a-year VCR and DVD players out of the room.

Not out of my house, but out of the room.

And that’s something, right?

I know. It’s barely something. I’m just not ready to believe we’ll never ever again watch a VHS tape.

ASlobComesClean.com

Still hanging off the edge. Still dusty.

Blergh.

Barely something is better than nothing. Every time I look at the entertainment center I think that I should go through the stacks and stacks of cassette tapes and CDs. With Spotify, I can probably listen to most everything I own…and free up a shelf. But there they sit.

Yeah, I’m still pretty proud of myself for moving my both of our DVD/VCRs into a drawer last year.

You should have seen the pain on my husbands face when I finally convinced him to throw away the GameCube controllers taking up valuable space in our media cabinet. We have no GameCube, it broke and was thrown away YEARS ago. The new wii we got does NOT have connections for them, and wont play the GameCube games. But he just wouldn’t get rid of them!

Great job!!! I was going to throw our cheap DVD player out…cause you have to hold it open while you put in the DVD… and I stopped using it after we got the xbox 360…took a while but we did it. Hubby didn’t want us to use it be we all eventually did. Well ds who is 11 had to have it.. I said no we’ll get you a newer one at Christmas if you put it on your list. Then I thought no he can have it.. .he’s used it more then we have in the last few years. LOL… still will get him a better one if he puts it on his Christmas list. I may have to remind him though. Tee Hee… he’s got that thing wired up to his new flat tv like crazy. He uses for CD music too… crazy boy…

PS… I reread what I wrote… sorry usually do that before I post something… It should read that dh didn’t want us to use the 360 xbox for watching movies with DVD’s.

Pack old VCR away with fav VHS tapes. If you wanna watch em it’s all together. If you wanna toss em it’s all together.

We have a VCR recorder hooked up to our TV and yes, we’re hanging onto it. We are fans of an old science fiction show called Doctor Who (yes, it is a current show too, but we like the ones from the 70’s and 80’s) and we have bunches of episodes that are only on VHS. Other than that, we’d get rid of it but we’re not ready because of those tapes. In an ideal world, I could get DVD’s to replace all the tapes but they are still quite expensive so we won’t do that.

I am loving this blog because my husband and I do stuff like this all. the. time. When we finally get around to it, I think “why was that sitting there that long???” Yet, we do it again and again. I am so glad that it is not just us!
I know that “normal” people do not live this way, and I am slowly learning how to deslob. On a side note, I have been doing my dishes every single day. I did not do them last night because I felt sick, and I told one of the kids to fill the dishwasher after dinner because I needed to go to bed. The child loaded it, and the dishwasher was full. Said child is also responsible for unloading each morning. I asked her if she had done that, and she said, “No, they are not clean.” I said, “I thought I told you to load the dishwasher last night.” She answered, “I did. You did not say to run it, too. ” Ooops! It makes such a difference in the whole day to start with clean dishes!
