Today’s Detail: Decluttering Just One Thing

This is a pretty blue spoon rest.

Things I do with it:

Forget that I have it.

Run across it and move it to where I imagine I would use it if I remembered I had it.

Notice that it is covered in dusty grease splatters and stick it in the dishwasher.

Put it back where I think I’ll surely use it now that it’s clean.

Look for a place to put my spoon, rejoice that I actually noticed the spoon rest, and decide not to use it because it is once again covered in dusty grease splatters.

This week, I decided to put it in the Donate Spot.  I’m giving up on this surely-it-should-be-useful item.

Part of me seriously thought that I should wait until I decluttered my kitchen.  Another part of me realized that didn’t make any sense.

And that is my detail for today.

Good for you! I never use spoon rests either. I should go look for something around that I never use too!

I have a very cute spoon rest that was given to me as a gift. I never can find it when I need it. I just reach for a saucer or other small plate when I need to rest a spoon somewhere. Next time I come across that spoon rest I think I will get rid of it too.

Ditto here for my spoon rest. It just might make it into the donate bag this week. We’ll see. 🙂 Of course my husband would ask what I did with it even though it hardly ever gets used. Neither one of us is good about de cluttering. It’s a work in progress.

I keep a small plate on the stove. It’s so easy to wash it with the rest of the dishes. Only problem is when the rest of the family puts the dishes away, it sometimes winds up in the cupboard!

I like that idea. I never use my spoon rest because it doesn’t fit in the dishwasher well and why would I want to mess up something I have to hand wash?

You are too funny. Don’t we all do things like that? Glad to know I am not alone.

I have a spoon rest that stays in the center of the stove, among the burners, but out of the way. But I’m sure there are other items that I never use except to clean them (not often enough). Good for you for identifying and getting rid of yours!

My spoon rest is in the drawer with pot holders/hot pads. Rarely used

I’m with the “just grab a side-plate” crowd! Holds more than one utensil, I don’t have to stop to think which way round my spoon is (useful when I’m trying to see to three things at once!), is not a uni-tasker cluttering up the place, easy to wash, doesn’t need it’s own special place to put it away, what’s not to love? Also, as you’ve said, easier to find!
