Daily Checklist 2/11/11

 Today I:

Didn’t empty the dishwasher first thing in the morning, because I didn’t run it last night, because I didn’t even think to look in the kitchen, because I didn’t cook, because we “had to” go eat at the restaurant where hubby’s school was having a fundraiser (not that I’m complaining about that!).

And yet, when I cleaned up the kitchen this morning, I found that there would have been plenty of dishes to run a load last night . . . . like I was supposed to.

Shocker.

And I:

Wiped down the kitchen.

Swept kitchen.

RAN dishwasher.

Did a five-minute pickup.

Checked for clutter in one of the bathrooms.

Did my Bible study.

Exercised.

Dusted and vacuumed.  (It’s Friday.)

There you go, my checklist.

What kinds of things are on your daily checklist?

    Done-
Put away mountain of dishes I washed yesterday
    grocery shopping
set up new recycle bin & removed all recycling from overtaking kitchen

    Still to do-
    wash more dishes
    laundry

Should be doing this now since the kids are actually napping…

You did a lot, Jennifer! I can totally relate about the recycling taking over. Our recycling bins are in the garage, and sometimes that walk seems too long and things stay in the kitchen for waaaay too long.

I made my bed for the first time in about 6 months, I think I'm going to try adding this to my daily routine (which currently only consists of one load of clothes and doing the dishes)

I am really enjoying following your journey! I can’t tell you how many times I have thought, “That’s exactly what I do!” or, “That’s exactly how I think/feel!”. I’ve been doing daily tasks for about a month now and my house looks SO much better – and I’ve been struggling with a cluttered, messy home for years (entire life…). I’m feeling secure in the basics, so I’m gearing up to add in a couple of weekly tasks this week. Your daily checklists help me to remember to do my own. So far today I’ve:
    -Picked up bathroom clutter
-Put dishes left in the sink last night into the dishwasher
    -Ran the dishwasher
-Swept the kitchen floor (still amazed how much I sweep up each time!)
-Swished and swiped bathroom (used to try to “do” Flylady – 15 minutes is about the only thing that stuck for me and got me through two graduate degrees and is how I’m tackling needed projects around my home)
-Have been making my bed each day but my hubby is still in it right now.

My daughter and her fiancé have just bought a home and I am encouraging her to read your blog, too, as she is her mother’s daughter…. Following your lead has given me some hope that I CAN have the home my family wants and needs, and while I am grateful that wedding guests will enjoy my beautiful home next spring, my husband, college-aged son and I benefit now! Thank you!

Maybe this will be my week to start my check list again (for real this time not just good intentions since end of july/beginning of August.) I haven’t seen it on yours lately, but the tasks of put kids clothes out and pack lunches were lifesavers for me the first 2 weeks of school going from one kid in school to 2. We are headed into week four. After week 3 had some brink of absolute chaos mornings, I am determined not to revert back to my dig in the laundry basket days!!

Today I ironed the pants that’ve been holding me up (by my choice, to force me to do it) from putting away other clean clothes.

I went through some craft supplies with a child & we donated a good bit. Also have a good idea what space we have established for those types of items 🙂

Forgot to add yesterday that I changed the trash for hubs to take out & asked him to also take out recycling. Which he did, hooray!!

I cleaned the inside top of my metal trashcan. It rusts overtime, and I occasionally S.O.S. it to keep it from being a total gross mess, and extend the time before we eventually buy a new one.

I put away some tape I had bought for crafts & made a used to be hard, but this was clear decision to donate some bonbon balls in the craft box that we haven’t touched for a long time.

Your methods have taken much of the emotion out of used to be overly emotional decisions.
