Menu Plan Monday – the Birthday Cake Edition

It’s official.

I’m in my late 30s now.

37 to be exact.

And since my sweet little family made my favorite cake, that will be the dessert on our menu every night until it’s gone.

Wondering why the “HIRT” candles?

Hubby said they couldn’t fit the entire set of “Happy Birthday” candles on the cake, so they settled for “Happy B Day.”

And of course, my first slob-thought when I picked up the leftover candles today was, “Oh, these are so cute, I should totally keep these and use them sometime!”

Except that we don’t know anyone named Hirt.

Or Thir.

Or Rith.

Or even Irth.

So, drawing from the depths of my attained-since-starting-this-deslobification-process wisdom . . . I threw them away.

Now, on to the real point of this post . . . our menu.

Monday – Baked chicken and pasta

Tuesday – Tacos (I’ve been promising my 7yo tacos, but keep forgetting to put it on the menu.)

Wednesday – Round steak in the crock-pot, served over rice

Thursday – Tator Tot Casserole

Friday – Out to Eat

Saturday – Homemade Pizza

Sunday – Homegroups at our house.  I clean . . . someone else cooks.

Go check out other menu plans over at Orgjunkie.com.

I think I must have a problem… I actually gasped when I read that you threw away the candles. I might need this blog more than you do!

Your comment totally made me laugh, Rebekah! It was PAINFUL to throw them away, since I'm the queen of "I could totally do something with that someday" thinking. But I'm trying to imagine ahead to my children going through their crazy mama's house after I'm gone, wondering why in the world she kept HIRT candles.

My aunt, and maybe even me would have kept the whole thing, including the ones that had been lit, and you couldn't hardly tell they were letters! You can always use them for….um yeah….the garbage is a great place!

I'm wondering if you could share how you make round steak in the crockpot? We just got a 1/4 cow and have all kind of things in our freezer that I'm not too familiar cooking, and that's one of them 🙂

My hubby came up with the wonderful idea of claiming he's 30 and 7/10's when he hit 37 this past fall… I liked it- so I will be 30 and 7/10's in June – I think 40 sounds a lot further away when I say it that way!

I must need help too! As I have many candles saved 🙂 Why do we do such things? I love that your family made you a cake. Have a great week! Annika

Thanks for the birthday wishes! Love the 30 7/10 idea!

And yes, I'll post the recipe soon for the round steak. I've always wondered about buying a 1/4 cow, how to go about it, etc. Of course, like most of my recipes, this one isn't much of a recipe, just a "what to put in the crockpot" thing.

Nony, I'm glad you'll post about the round steak. I still have some from half a cow we'd bought. In our case, one of my dh's co workers raised a few head of Black Angus cows. When it's butchering time, he looks for folks who want to buy some meat.

Nony, it’s interesting to read through the blog a little more quickly and see the progress you are making. This is the third (or more) post where you have just pitched something- the coupons and declining to store for a garage sale being really good examples of how your thinking has changed! For a slob to begin to let go of things is a big step. I loved it when you pitched the coupon basket!!!!! That was AWESOME! My toy bin system (which is one thing that works for me) is full and there are no more baby closets to stash bins in so I am targeting some toys right now. I love that “no, my decision is FINAL” feeling-it is so freeing.

Also, the laundry day routine is growing on me. Since reading through these last weeks I have noticed it is working for you and I told Honbun I am going to try it. I am getting ready tonight and have some loads going.

    Thanks Nony!!

Oh, I am going with Monday too. I decided to follow our foremothers wisdom. I know that was the day they had the most energy to do such hard physical labor so maybe it will remind to be grateful I have a washer and dryer.
