Focus Check Friday – Come Join In!

Really? It’s Friday again?

I’m thinking that my complete shock at the appearance of Thursday evenings just demonstrates my need to stop and check my focus. Otherwise, life goes on, and my home slides farther down on my priority list. You can read about the basic concept behind Focus Check Friday here.

My focus this past week? I’ve done okay. I did most of my daily tasks on most of the days, especially focusing on the kitchen, but I didn’t do very well at the focused 5-minute-pickups. My main focus was preparing for summer. I made the kids’ bathroom cleaning baskets, and took some drastic measures in purging their excess clothing, so I’m ready (excuse-free) to have them help with the laundry and the bathrooms next week.

I didn’t create the dusting/vacuuming checklist like I had planned, but since it’s my Thursday task, I’m hoping to get it done early next week.

For next week, my goal is to stick to the basics. I plan to post my daily checklist in the kitchen, so we can breeze through it together in the mornings. And of course, next week will begin the fun of teaching them how to do laundry, clean bathrooms, dust, etc. At this point, I’m looking forward to it . . . check in next week to see how it went.

How was your focus this week? What are you focusing on for next week?

I encourage you to take a moment to stop and focus. Leave a comment, write a post on your blog and link it up below, or just have a conversation with yourself inside your head.

If you do link up, please say something like “I’m linking up to Focus Check Friday over at A Slob Comes Clean” and link back to this post. If you don’t know how to do that, please ask, I’d love to help.

I'm excited to implement my summer schedule with my kids, too. My focus check is that I completed all daily tasks this week while volunteering more than usual at the elementary school due to last-week-before-summer activities. After lunch today, they are dismissed…and they are mine all mine for 3 wonderful months! My focus check includes completing our summer schedule which incorporates housework that they help me with, home school projects that I do with them, and fun activities like swimming, library, play dates, and a monthly charity outreach. We will be spending tons of time together, which is my goal since my oldest is now 14, and I know that chances are he will get a job next summer. Heavy sigh. I would like to re-organize a couple of places in the house, but I'm following your example to maintain the house instead of starting new de-cluttering projects since they summer days are already full. The important thing is to enjoy the summer days, while keeping the house tidy, right?

    Nony,

I love the bathroom cleaning baskets that you made. Can't wait to hear how the packing up of excess clothing goes this summer. My son would probably go for it, but the girls – no way.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Well, this summer will be my last summer with my kids so I want to do lots of fun things that are free. I will be decluttering my entire house this summer and redoing the kids room. My kids will be doing chores and reading everyday. I can't wait.

My focus this week was to keep up with my menu plan and get my pantry into shape to support all the food that will be consumed in the next 2 months with my "starving" tweenage boys and all their friends…..Julie

3 Days to get my home squeaky clean for House guests. Gives you a lot of focus. My parents are in there upper 60s and taking care of the twins is the only job I want them to do but if things are left undone my mom can’t rest until the house is clean.
So Focusing in on a Tuesday 5 years late to the most but reading in my motivation.

I’m really excited to see how Summer 2010 went for you guys. As a homeschooler I have my kids home all day every day and it can be a challenge sometimes to include them in my chores without just assigning them or doing them all myself. Looking forward to the next couple months’ posts!
