And the big box? It was there because I’m just positive I’ll be able to fill it up with unneeded stuff as I declutter the master bedroom this month.
This morning I had planned to work on the end-of-the-bed pile that is also the site of an avalanche from crazy weekend searching. But in honor of the progress I made last week on the rug, I decided to go for this area. And here is the result after 32 minutes of work.

Believe me, it was tempting to make excuses and put this off until next week when I could “really do it right” but I’m very glad that I didn’t.
As for the big box – I moved it to another disaster area on the other side of the room.
WTG 🙂 Im impressed.
That area looks wonderful! I am with you; my master bedroom frequently becomes a dumping ground. It feels absolutely energizing to get it clean. I find that when my bedroom is clean, everything else seems easier. I have a friend who has taken it upon herself to encourage me in keeping my bedroom clean, and will occasionally come over and help me. Slowly, it is being conquered!
Very nice! I'm sorry about not commenting lately. I work outside the home and it's been too busy and I'm too frustrated to get much done at home. Since I'm not encouraging myself, I guess I'm failing in encouraging others! However, I'm off from Maundy Thursday through Easter Monday so I hope to get a few things cleaned up around here and THEN I'll be back to encourage you and thank you for your inspiration!
10 years later, I am reading through your blog from the beginning. I have been biting my tongue to not reply to many of your posts because it has been so long. I was going to wait until I reached your current posts, but I wanted to let you know that I am finding your early struggles really inspiring in a helpful way, even though I have read both your books (which were also extremely useful). I have loved seeing how you came up with the steps, tested them and changed the ones that didn’t work to come up with the final ‘product’ that you published in Decluttering at the Speed of Life and How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind. One thing I am struggling with is a sense of guilt that I shortchanged my children by not feeling free for them to invite people/their friends over because the house was always a mess. Now they are grown and it is too late to change that, but I am still working on myself. I so admire you! Thank you!
