Refocusing on my Non-Negotiables

I’m not adding a new non-negotiable task this week like I usually do on Sundays.

Because I’ve been “negotiating” them for the last several weeks.

But I’m honestly excited to start being consistent in my daily tasks again. How nerdy is that?

So I thought that for this week, I need to make an actual list of tasks. Since I’ve been backsliding for a few weeks, I’m not going to assume that I’ll even remember what they all are.

Here goes.

Night-before tasks: (I’ve actually done all of these tonight!)

Put out clothes for the boys.

Make lunches.

Wipe down bathroom counters and toilets. (my very least favorite)

Check laundry to be sure load for the day is completed. (Hubby did this! And after I typed that last sentence, I got up and helped put it all away, hence the need for this list.)

Get a load into the washer, ready to be started the next day. (Since I haven’t been doing laundry consistently for the last two weeks, the washer is busy since hubby is washing his own socks.)

Daily tasks:

Make bed.

Empty dishwasher.

Clean kitchen.

Sweep kitchen.

Do focused 5 minute pick-up.

Check bathrooms for clutter.

Hang up or put in laundry the clothes in the master.

I think that’s it, but it does seem like I’m forgetting something.

So starting tomorrow, I’ll be posting my daily task list every day again. I have to stay accountable.

i know you aren't really doing this for others, but for yourself..

but all weekend, i'd see something that needed doing and would walk on by, and would stop in my tracks remembering a post you had written on just doing it NOW, when it was noticed and i'd take care of it, i'd thank you and smile and move on. It's nice knowing i'm not alone in this horrid struggle…

looking forward to reading your posts..

It means so much that maybe being honest about my struggle helps someone else. I don't ever want to pretend to be an expert or have answers to anyone's organizational problems, but knowing that my journey is encouraging someone else just motivates me more. Thanks for reading!

just an FYI – i see you are loading your laundry to do the next morning- electric has cheaper rates in the middle of the night. I always set my dishwasher to run about 3 am and my laundry i start either right before I turn in or when i get up to tinkle in the middle of the night, the washer doesnt have a timer setting

    looking forward to following

I have dozens of decluttering/organizing books and I’ve lost count of all the blogs on this subject i look at. But Nony, yours is the only one that actually got me moving. And as you can see i still have a long way to go to get to your present day posts! This is a good and delicious thing – like discovering a new author and finding she has written a whole lot of novels. Thanks so much.

I feel the same way as Shirls. I’ve read quite a few books about organizing and housekeeping, even subscribed to Flylady, but nothing seems to work except your blog. And just thinking that I still have all those posts of yours to go through is kind of thrilling. I’m taking my time, no gloating allowed! Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
