I have removed emotions from my decluttering process, not because I don’t have emotions, but because I do! I can’t use emotions to declutter, so I stick with my fact and instinct based ways of dealing with things.

One of the biggest things that brings up lots of emotions is being asked (or asking myself) WHY?

Why didn’t I take care of this before instead of letting it get so bad?
Why did I get this?
Why am I this way?

I’m talking about why I don’t use “why” and why it helps to not use “why in my decluttering process.

These are the kinds of things that stress declutterers out, so I hope I can take some of the stress away. Take Your House Back is […]

394: Appreciate or Depreciate – It’s Your Choice

November 23, 2023 By Dana White Leave a Comment

If it’s in the house, it’s either appreciating or depreciating. And truly appreciating something keeps it from depreciating. Let’s talk about this concept. By “let’s” of course I mean me. Because I’m the only one talking. But I had fun in this conversation with myself. Take Your House Back is on sale.  My books Want […]

391: Shifting the Mindset about Space-Saving and Storage Solutions

November 2, 2023 By Dana White Leave a Comment

Terms like space-saving designs and storage solutions and such are very appealing, but even though I used to purchase organizing products labeled that way, my house didn’t look any better. I’ve now come to a point where I’m turned off by those phrases. It’s a mindset shift. My books Want to be a patron of […]

October 26, 2023 By Dana White 1 Comment

I’m answering a few questions that were asked over at AskDanaKWhite.com. Question 1: My question is on the subject of toys. How do I go about starting (outside of your normal questions)? Like were do I start? My son is 3. Do I pick what to keep or does he? (We have tons of hot […]

This was a fun strategy session with two guests! I know that navigating the decluttering process with a spouse can present challenges, so it was good to talk to this couple together. We discussed: How to manage every day routines and still get to clean the house. Making progress when planning for a move. Dealing […]

388: Decluttering that Extra Difficult Spot or Category of Stuff

October 12, 2023 By Dana White Leave a Comment

We all have (at least) one category of stuff that’s extra hard to declutter. I’m addressing that today, inspired by this email: I am a teacher who, due to life circumstances, is leaving the profession shortly before I could be considered early retired.  I am working part-time as a substitute teacher because I can not […]
