My First Speaking Event

If any of you would have told me three years ago that I would stand in front of a group of women and give advice on cleaning and organizing . . . I would have laughed in yo’ face.

Loudly.

And yet, a little over a month ago, that’s just what I did.

I have been ready and willing to take this blogging thing into the realm of public speaking for a while now.  (I did teach Speech once upon a time!)

But when the time came, there was still that age-old  fear of standing in front of a crowd and declaring myself a slob.

No hiding behind the computer screen or wearing a pink bandana over pigtails to disguise my real identity.

Just me, standing there, talking about how to declutter and create cleaning routines from the perspective of someone who has had to learn (and is still learning) the hard way.

So how did it go?

Great!  My session was one of ten breakout sessions that the attendees could choose from.  I had great numbers at each of my three sessions.

What does this tell me?  My topic (below) appealed to more women that I ever would have thought three years ago.

Hope for Hospitality

  • How to develop housekeeping routines that will allow you to open your front door and welcome others into your home.
  • How to adjust your perception of your own home and see it the way others do.

During the sessions, there were many nods of understanding, a few teary eyes, and lots of laughs.

After the sessions, I had some great conversations with women who confirmed again (and in flesh and blood) that these struggles I thought were unique to me . . . aren’t.

All in all, it was a wonderful, fun day.  I confirmed that my subject matter has appeal and value, and I left with requests for more speaking events!

If you’re in the DFW area and will soon be planning your Moms’ groups meetings or church events for next fall, I hope you’ll consider me as a speaker!

Check out my Speaker Page with newly added testimonials!

Why Does Honesty Always Involve Humility? (At least for me)

April 12, 2012 By Dana White 45 Comments

95shares 90 0 5 I’m over-committed. That could possibly sound noble, while this is most certainly not noble: Especially since the oft-repeated instruction in my e-book is “Do the dishes.” I have a mostly-written post that I was going to put up today.  It’s all about how there is a limit to how much I […]

The Waiting Room

April 11, 2012 By Dana White 17 Comments

15shares 13 0 2 We looked at a house recently. My main concern was that it had too many rooms. I know.  I can’t believe I said that either.  As someone with an unhealthy love of closeable doors, I used to assume that additional rooms would solve ever-so-many of my problems. The room I had […]

Cleaning Wood Furniture

April 10, 2012 By Dana White 4 Comments

626shares 8 0 618 Have I ever mentioned that ONE of my problems is . . . if I’m not confident about how to clean something, I let my fear of doing it wrong keep me from doing it at all? No?  Well, it is.  (One of them.) I love wood furniture, and as long […]

No More Easter Grass! We Don’t Want Easter Grass!

April 5, 2012 By Dana White 53 Comments

1.4Kshares 1.3K 0 84 Did you read that as a chant of protest? Because that’s how it went in my head. I despise Easter grass, so this year I’m fighting back by . . . not having any. Except that the purpose of Easter grass is to be filler.  So, to take up lots of […]

Traction

April 4, 2012 By Dana White 4 Comments

4shares 4 0 0 No time to write today.  I’m working hard on our church’s Easter morning service which involves drama this year. But . . . I did want to be sure I mention that today is technically the last day of the 3$ e-book sale using the code SPRING. NOTE: “28 Days” is […]

Peanut Butter Pie Recipe

April 3, 2012 By Dana White 13 Comments

6.9Kshares 521 1 6.4K We’re not a dessert-every-single-night family. Not that my kids (especially my born-persistent five year old) don’t ask for it every night. So, when Mama’s in the mood for a little something special to finish off the meal, everyone gets excited!  The easiest way I know to bring about those smiles is […]

Cut Off from My Safety Net

April 2, 2012 By Dana White 4 Comments

93shares 65 0 28 No, my dear gutter-minded reader, that is not a scarf hanging on the doorknob for the stereotypical sitcom reasons. (We have a lock for that.) The scarf was hanging on the door because yesterday afternoon, Hubby wasn’t feeling well and needed to rest.  At the same time, I was busy picking […]

Monday Night Supper (and a 3 Day $3 e-book sale)

April 1, 2012 By Dana White 10 Comments

6shares 2 0 4 I know there are many people who survive in the kitchen by serving certain meals on certain days of the week. Generally, we don’t do this, but lately Monday has become our Chicken and Veggies night. After our Two Weeks of Only Fruits and Veggies a while back, we decided to […]
