The Master Bedroom Saga: Part 10

Oh my word.  It’s JANUARY of 2013, and I still haven’t finished posting the Master Bedroom Saga????

Well, this is the next-to-the-last post in this series.  It’s the end of the video footage I shot while actually doing the project, and I put it into two different videos.  (If you’re reading by email, click on the title of the post to get to the blog where you can see the videos.)  At this point, I’d stopped bothering to write in the daily journal, so I’m just going on memory and what I said/did in the videos.

Basically, it went like this:

(All characters played by me.  All characters are me.  I have lots of these internal dialogues . . . )

“Oh no! I’m never, ever going to finish this stupid project!  What was I thinking!!??!!??!!”

“Chill.  Do the easy stuff.”

“OK, that helped.  I got some easy things done, but WHY oh WHY do I always find stuff like books of Broadway songs at the bottom of piles of shoes??  WHY??”

“Get over it.  Ask your first decluttering question (that YOU invented) and then go put it wherever you would look for it first.  It’s not that big of a deal.”

“So the room is looking significantly better as I’ve worked through it little by little, but what about this?  Huh?  I mean, this almost-15-year-old Rolling Stone magazine with the Seinfeld characters dressed as Wizard of Oz characters . . . . THAT could be valuable!  So what do I do with that???”

“Ummmm, check how much it’s selling for on eBay.  That ‘could be valuable’ excuse doesn’t fly anymore.  You can know whether or not it’s valuable.  In, like, 28 seconds.”

“Fine.  You were right.  Ten dollars isn’t worth my time to put this on eBay right now.  Maybe a few years ago when I was selling on there all the time, but now that I’m busy with . . . ”

“Stop talking.  Get back to work.  You have to finish this project.”

“Oh.  Right.  Sorry.”

And . . . that’s about it.  I did this huge project in August of 2012.  I wrote my new e-book, Drowning in Clutter?, in December.  Looking back at the videos confirmed that all the strategies in the e-book are the actual strategies I use as I work my way through decluttering projects.

All of them.  Little ones or seriously-is-this-ever-going-to-end ones.

My goal for next week?  Post the FINALE of this series.  The still-to-be-shot finale.  The oh-my-word-am-I-really-going-to-show-what-my-master-bedroom-looks-like-now video?

Yes.  I will.

Oh.  And the two videos in this post are titled parts 9 and 10.  I didn’t include a video in blog post 9.  It’s confusing, I know.

The e-book mentioned above is now retired, but I have since published two books you’ll want check out: How to Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind and Decluttering at the Speed of Life are detailed guides.

My “Done List” vs My “To Do List”

January 6, 2013 By Dana White 8 Comments

256shares 230 0 26 I do much better at making a list of things I’ve already accomplished than at making lists of things I need to do. Y’know, since it doesn’t really matter if I misplace the Done List . . . As I begin 2013, I’m looking back at the things I did in […]

My Laundry Metamorphosis

December 29, 2012 By Dana White 50 Comments

981shares 600 0 381 I know that there are always people reading backward here, and I love that.  I especially love getting comments on old posts. But sometimes I feel a little guilty when someone comments on an old laundry post. Out of everything I’ve conquered and analyzed and failed at (only to re-analyze and […]

Slob Vision

December 28, 2012 By Dana White 25 Comments

555shares 431 0 124 Hmmmm.  How to define Slob Vision . . . Basically, I don’t see incremental mess.  I see neat and tidy spaces and horrendously messy ones. The in-between? Not so much. Here’s ONE example. I can walk by my kitchen sink and think . . . “Hmmm.  There are a few dishes […]
