In this episode, we discuss:
- how to avoid getting stuck on the daily tasks (dishes, 5 minute pick up, etc), but finding time to do a major decluttering also.
- how to move past the visible spaces, so the other rooms that aren’t visible from the front door don’t get pushed to the backburner.
- how to handle digital clutter.

Here’s a tip when it comes to motivating or paying children to take over some of your tasks:
Look beyond money. My kid will rake leaves for a scoop of ice cream or 30 minutes of video time. We recently discovered the value of Robux (digital currency for the online game Roblox). Getting paid 400 Robux was much more exciting to my child than $5 to clean and vacuum the car even though I am paying the same amount either way. You can’t divide Robux up. They are added to the player’s account in one lump sum so be sure you know which Robux package you are buying before you make any deals with your child.
I’m a toddler teach and would suggest for your little one to limit the amount of toys and rotate them weekly or so — less toys means they play with them more and less pick up you the family!
Very timely podcast for me. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed even though I know the decluttering steps. The advice to work on something hard or specific to me during a five-minute family pick-up (while they did the easier decluttering) was useful in helping me regain some traction. Thanks once again, Dana.
