Laundry can be one of the most overwhelming (and never-ending) household chores.
I love hearing from readers about how they have made my Laundry Day strategy work in their own homes.
Hi Dana,
Thanks sooooo much for the great idea of having a laundry day instead of doing a little bit every day.I divide the laundry day into two days: on Sunday I do sheets, towels, kitchen towels and red laundry; on Mondays, I do blue, white, pink and black. I have cubbies for different colors so I don’t have to sort out laundry before doing it. This way, it’s very easy to track laundry. We are a family of seven so there’s sooo much laundry but with this system, after Monday, I can relax for the whole week. It gives me peace of mind and helps the whole family (everybody knows how the system works and they really are used to it). There’s no extra laundry to do!Thanks a lot & keep up with the great work,G.

I do laundry 2 times a week. On Wed. and on Sat. On Wed we change sheets, so sheets plus anything else gets done then. On Sat. I do towels, and then one more of anything else, sometimes an extra load for dark clothes, like jeans and sweats.
I am retired, so it is just me and my hubby, so it is easy. I never get behind, and always get everything folded up and put away right away. No problem, now my kitchen counter is a different story, I can’t seem to keep it uncluttered no matter how hard I try. Thanks.

It’s just me and my 11 year old daughter but I get easily overwhelmed with the laundry because I don’t have a set routine for it. It’s random and chaotic in that utility room. I can go days without doing any then spending and entire day doing nothing but laundry.

I am with you on the kitchen counters! Well, truthfully, any flat surface in my house. I think we are beyond help. We are bordering hoaders and Fred Sanford all in one!

How do you handle things that get stains on them? We have 3 kids 5 and younger … Lots of spilled food! Do you wait to do those on laundry day?

I solved my own laundry issues my a king them all do their own. Lol. The first time any teenager moaned about something not having been washed. I said that the Washing machine is easier to operate than a mobile phone. It’s that big white thing by the back door. 😜😊
