August’s Decluttering Update – Come Join In!

I got a little bumfuzzled when I typed August just now.  Aren’t we heading into August?  We couldn’t possibly be coming out of it!

And that, folks, describes my summer.

It’s also my excuse for why there’s only one post in my decluttering category for August.  Thankfully, it was a doozie, and included my first webisode.

I’m also including the ba-jillion all-the-bleach-in-the-world-couldn’t-get-them-white-again socks that I threw away, even though I threw them away . . . in July.  I didn’t blog about them until August, and really . . . if I don’t blog about it, it doesn’t exist.

Which means that I probably shouldn’t count these clothes that I put in the Donate Pile and photographed.  The title of the still-unwritten post for this picture is “If they’re not my style now, they won’t be my style 20 pounds from now.”

Which pretty much explains everything.  So I now I don’t need to write that post.

How did you do in August?  I’ve loved to hear about your decluttering efforts over on my Facebook Page.  Join in here in the comments or by linking up a blog post and share your totals (as best as you can remember) for the month.

If you link up a blog post, you must link back to A Slob Comes Clean within your post.  I’ll be happy to help if you don’t know how to do that.

I’ve done great this month in decluttering my kitchen ,living room and my bedroom.I’ve hauled off 8 bags of crap that no one would want and donated 3 bags of clothes and 2 boxes of assorted junk.I’m still working on organizing the kitchen and next I’m cleaning out chest of drawers.Who knows,I might even be able to get rid of at least one chest of drawers when I get through.

We had a yard sale this past weekend. We have a trailer that is about 4×8′ that we loaded at least 6 times gathering things from places where we had stored stuff around the house/shed. When all was said & done, we took one trailer load, back of the car & small pickup truck box to the Salvation Army. We took one trailer load to the dump.

From now on, anything & everything I declutter will be going one box-full at a time to the Salvation Army – no saving up for another yard sale. Woo hoo!

I am having a slight bit of declutter remorse. But I don’t know whether it’s because it means ‘an end of an era’ or what. Two things that I felt bad about were my ‘extras’ of my Phaltzgraff dishes set (I did NOT need a set for 25! A complete set for 12 is more than enough.). The pattern is retired & unavailable – what if I break a plate? The other thing that I felt bad about getting rid of was my old homeschooling books (I haven’t homeschooled for 6 years & they haven’t sold yet). I worked really hard at finding the perfect curriculum that worked best for my kids needs. It wasn’t run of the mill – general, everyone uses it stuff & I couldn’t find a buyer… it was sad to box that up.

Eventually, I’ll get over it…. too late now, it’s gone….

It’s been a great month for decluttering! I took things from the stair basket & actually put them away where they belonged upstairs and dealt with a stack of newspapers, sales flyers and coupon inserts. I dealt with a bag of random stuff that was in the laundry room and worked one day in the basement. I did some virtual decluttering of my desktop computer’s inbox & unsubscribed to half a dozen places that I really didn’t need to be getting e-mail from.

The biggest project, though, has been working on my scrap-craft room/office. I’ve hauled out 4 bags of paper recycling & have piles for donation & belongs elsewhere stuff. I’ve reorganized my scrap supplies including a new 12×12 paper system. I moved storage units around for better workflow. I’m almost through with the photo-memorabilia organization. Next up – finishing the photos & organizing upcoming projects.

Thanks to your inspiration, just today I got 3 trash bags of clothes over to the church for the sale. I also got more cleaning done than on uninspired days. Now, if I could just figure out how to deal with 2 big and awful trouble spots that have been waiting for 6 weeks… I LOVE your advice to declutter, not organize. It gives me hope. In my favor, I did get a few things from each spot put/thrown away! Without your public journey, a lot of things that went in the trash recently would still be in my home. God really is using your struggles and talents to bless many homes!

I unsubscribed to several people I had followed for side content, but the very seldom mention of God or blatant blasphemy on repeat, means just listening has me wanting or reeling.

I got rid of a couple cleaning supplies we aren’t using.

And I’ve been ironing several of my shirts that come through the wash, that I like to crisp every now and again… and it’s not sitting there for ages!!!

Hubs added a retired handheld vacuum to a donate box I was literally taking out the door. Good job my love!!

And I donated a coffee cup, because I got a new one recently as a gift.
