WHERE did I put that (Fill In the Blank)?

I consider myself fairly low-maintenance. I like to look nice, but I keep it simple.

My general rule for earrings is that they need to be basic enough that I can wear them with anything.

But I have issues with losing things.

I was at a friend’s house a while back and she got frustrated because she couldn’t find something that she had in her hand a few minutes before. She said something like, “Ugh, I feel like one of my kids, they do stuff like that all the time!”

Ummm, I do stuff like that all the time.

In fact, give me any type of tools-needed project and I’ll add 30 minutes to it because of multiple where-in-the-world-did-I-put-that-paintbrush/hammer/whatever-I-just-had-in-my-hand moments?

Generally, I try to have three-or-so sets of neutral earrings at a time. Not because I like variety, but because I have to plan for temporarily lost earrings. Most of the time, two pairs have lost mates, but I have one pair that is complete. Once I lose one of that pair, I generally run across the lost member of one of the other pairs.

Confusing enough?

But right now, things are a little crazy, and I don’t have even one complete pair of earrings.

That’s pretty much how things go for me. My tried-and-true-methods-that-aren’t-really-methods only work until things get overly busy.

Ugh.

Treat yourself to a set of earrings from Claire's or Icing. Yes, they're for younger girls but their earrings come in like, 8 packs. I have a couple sets of earrings still on the little paper thingy so I ALWAYS have at least one pair!

My recommendation is to find a fairly neutral cheap pair that you like and then buy several pairs, that way when one is lost you simply add another one to make a pair.

This is an old-but-new-to-me post, because I’m working through from the beginning.

I’m with the other commenters, though. I buy cheap (but really pretty!) earrings from Target or Claire’s- nothing fancy, usually “diamond” & pearls. I buy a few matching sets at a time, so I can (usually) find two that match & backs that fit.

For my college graduation recently, the wonderful family that I work for (I’m a nanny) bought me a gorgeous pair of pearl earrings- as in, real, several hundred dollar earrings. I love them, & wore them to graduation, but I can’t wear them on a regular basis because I KNOW I’ll lose them. Now looking at them induces a lot of guilt 🙁

Maybe one day, when I’m closer to conquering this slob-problem, I’ll be able to enjoy nice things. At least there’s hope!

That was me, not too long ago. What cured me of losing earrings and other jewelry in the house is a jewelry organizer that hangs on the wall, with little pockets. Take your earrings off, put them in a pocket. Now they’re always visible and handy, easy to take out and wear, easy to put back.

You could start a new trend. Wear only one. Lol. When I was younger. My uncle sent Christmas presents early. And I would unwrap them. When it was jewelry, I would wear it. And put something random in it. Every time I did this. I always lost one earing. Drove me nuts.

i use 1 inch by 2 inch zip lock bags for earrings and jewelry sets. i pin the bags to a bulletin board. i used to use empty egg cartons in a drawrer. I too keep some sets of inexpensive pieces. The more expensive or nostalgic stuff is insured. The zipped bags go easily in a zip packet of my purse or wallet when traveling. i lose one occassionally bit not frequently.

Reading through your old posts and I can really relate. I finally bought multiple pairs of identical earrings so that if I lose one or two I can still use the earrings from the extra sets. When I get down to the last pair, I buy some new ones.
