Last week was a good week of progress. I had several days on which I was able to get some major decluttering done. It is rewarding to open the kitchen cabinets and be able to see what is really in there, and get to it easily.
The only problem with a week like that is that I’m discouraged this week. I haven’t had/don’t have/won’t have any time for major projects. And I feel overwhelmed when I think about all of the other nooks/crannies/drawers/cabinets/closets that need to be decluttered.
I’ll keep chugging along, but I do wonder if I will ever reach a point when I’m finished. I’m guessing not.
So here’s one little improvement. I’ve been falling behind on my coupon cutting lately and somehow multiple piles of coupons have sprung up in various places.
Like this:
I’m thinking that this is the result of a last minute shove before someone came over. Before Christmas.
Most of these coupons were expired.
Coupons being everywhere means that when I do want to do some clipping, I have no idea whether or not I have all of an insert because they are so scattered.
So, I found an unfinished tray that I’m sure I bought to do “something” with. I decided to put it on the counter in the breakfast nook. Not gorgeous, but functional, as this is where I look at the Sunday paper, and they can go straight onto the tray.
I wish it was a beautiful solution. I wish it was an inspired solution. I wish it was a guaranteed solution. But for now, I just needed a solution.

That's a great idea. I clip the darn coupons and never use them.

Great that you found a lot of your coupons expired. Sometimes you just have to let go of things. I just pitched my old ones last week and it was very freeing. I have started the new year out putting all the coupon inserts from the papers into file folders – they are so much easier to keep track of that way. I wish you much success and know that I, too, am doing what you are doing and we are going to get it done!!

I love the idea of a tray for my unclipped coupons! I know I have one floating around my house somewhere… off to find it. It is nice to know someone else has the same organizational challenges I do. My place to shove stuff when people come over is the office/craft room, needless to say when I need to work or want to craft I can never even find a surface to work on.

Keep a pair of scissors in there and you'll always be ready to go. Add a ribbon to tie them to the handle if the scissors tend to sprout legs and walk away.

I get this! After admitting to myself that I’m also a slob, I’m reading through your blog from the beginning and it’s been so helpful. I’m realizing I can’t do pretty solutions because I get distracted by creating them and things need to be in my face. I can’t use planners because they have a cover and close. I can’t use a paper box because I can’t see all the papers so they don’t exist. This week I used painters tape to stick clear folders to my kitchen cabinets. My husband is skeptical that it will work but I needed to do SOMETHING.
