Saturdays are hard for me with the whole “daily task” thing. I’m wishing I would have named them “weekday tasks” instead.
It’s hard to not think that I deserve Saturday off. The routine is out the window, and we’re all so relaxed. We’re heading out to the pumpkin patch today to take pictures, and I’ve been ironing white shirts and digging out jeans that fit.
Since Saturdays don’t have the normal routine, it seems clutter multiplies even faster. The kids dragged their blankets into the living room this morning while they watched tv. There are candy wrappers everywhere because of a little girl who thinks she’s sneaky, but can’t resist all the sweets she got at the carnival last night.
If I take today off, I’ll take Sunday off too. And if I take off the entire weekend, Monday will be back to my old way of having a cleaning day, which was picking up junk that never should have been left there, instead of actually cleaning.
So I wiped down the bathrooms. I checked them for clutter. I put the dishes in the dishwasher. I cleaned the kitchen and swept. I did the five minute walk through. Happy weekend!

I don’t know if you’ve thought about this by now, almost four years later, but I keep small waste baskets in my office, bedroom, and kids rooms. I’m seriously thinking of finding a pretty one to set under the end table that accumulates the most stuff that could be carried fifteen feet away to the kitchen waste basket.
But yes, you are correct in that keeping to a routine most every day of the week makes all of the days easier to deal with. I really miss the days when I had routines…and far less stuff.

I don’t do extra on my days off. I do my dishes, and a 10 minute walk through of the house. Where I pick up trash, bits and wipe countertops. Then I clean the guinea pig cage and the Aviary. Today I hope to have the piggies installed in the aviary so it’s a one stop cleaning. Also my love birds love the piggies.
